Eligibility
The Angels signed Luis Garcia to a one-year, $4.25 million contract.
Fantasy Impact
Garcia spent the past two seasons with the Padres, posting a 4.07 ERA across 61 appearances last year. He should provide some depth in the middle innings out of the Angels bullpen.
Padres RP Luis Garcia erased the Nationals in the ninth inning for his third save of the season. He tossed a scoreless inning, allowing one hit.
Fantasy Impact
It was Garcia and not Josh Hader who Bob Melvin turned to in a one-run game in the ninth inning Saturday. Hader has really struggled since being acquired by San Diego. Maybe Melvin is trying to get him some rest, but either way this is a development now worth watching.
Padres relief pitcher Luis Garcia tossed a scoreless inning, striking out two in a 6-3 loss to the Nationals Friday.
Fantasy Impact
Garcia entered the ninth after Padres closer Josh Hader gave up three runs to begin the inning. Prior to Hader's arrival, Garcia was handed the closer position. Knowing what San Diego sent to get Hader, it's unlikely they remove him from the closer position. But at the same time, Bob Melvin must be wondering what he has to do to find a reliable reliever. Taylor Rogers went from the best closer in baseball to atrocious seemingly overnight. Now Hader can't get an out. If the veteran lefty was given a break from the ninth inning, it would likely be Garcia's job once again.
Padres reliever Luis Garcia tossed a scoreless ninth, earning his first save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Twins. He needed just 12 pitches to retire the side in order.
Fantasy Impact
This is potentially a big development for fantasy purposes. Taylor Rogers has struggled mightily to close out games, having seven blown saves. Maybe manager Bob Melvin was just giving Rogers a day of rest, but considering he has not pitched since Wednesday, that seems unlikely. If you are in need of saves, now might be the time to strike on Garcia who is readily available in most leagues.
Padres reliever Luis Garcia took the loss Sunday. He got tagged for two runs on three hits, but at least struck out two batters in the 4-2 loss to the Rockies.
Fantasy Impact
Garcia had been one of the better middle relievers in baseball as of a few weeks ago. He has since lost a couple of games and seen his ERA rise to 3.09. He still has fantasy value in leagues that reward holds. The Padres play so many close games that he is likely to earn a number of holds, wins and losses the rest of the year.
