Jay Ajayi 'is the Eagles' lead running back'

Zach Berman of Philly.com writes that the Eagles will be moving away from their backfield-by-committee approach and plan to feature Jay Ajayi more in 2018. Ajayi, who is in a contract year, “came in last year and obviously proved to us that he can handle it,” coach Doug Pederson said. “He’s definitely going into camp as the No. 1 guy.” (The Philadelphia Inquirer )

Fantasy Impact:

Ajayi averaged 5.8 yards-per-carry with Philadelphia and broke off four carries of 20-plus yards in his 70 attempts. Pro Football Focus graded Ajayi as the No. 4 pure runner last season but he didn't fare as well as a pass-catcher. Corey Clement and Darren Sproles are also there to vie for carries and are more likely to make an impact in passing situations, but it sounds like Ajayi is going to have the opportunity to have a bigger role with one of the league's most potent offenses. Ajayi is certainly worth a look as an RB2 with double-digit touchdown potential.
