49ers WR Deebo Samuel has suffered a broken foot during a throwing session with teammates in Nashville on Tuesday. It is a Jones fracture, and Samuel will have surgery immediately, according to sources. He should be back on the field early this upcoming season. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
Tough blow for Samuel who was set to break out this season in his second year with the 49ers. He suffers the same injury that completely derailed teammate Trent Taylor’s entire 2019 season, but hopefully Samuel can find success with his rehab. If he were to miss time early in the season, it’ll mean more targets for guys like Jalen Hurd, Trent Taylor, and Brandon Aiyuk. George Kittle should also see an uptick in targets with Samuel out. Keep an eye on Samuel’s progress this offseason, but this has the potential to be a crushing blow to his fantasy value in 2020.
