Per Nick Wagoner of ESPN, RB Raheem Mostert is wearing a brace on his right knee during 49ers practice for extra protection and will likely receive a lightened workload during camp. (Nick Wagoner)

Fantasy Impact:

At this point anytime you hear anything that might be injury related in regards to Mostert it's worth paying attention to. Mostert, 29-years old, has been very efficient for the 49ers when available, but staying on the field has been his biggest issue. While it's believed that Mostert will be the "lead" back for the 49ers to begin the season it's worth noting they did just draft Trey Sermon in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft and have one of the deepest RB rooms in the NFL with Jeff Wilson (PUP) and Wayne Gallman. The upside for Mostert remains that the 49ers are one of the most run heavy teams in the NFL so he should get decent volume, but given the hot hand approach the 49ers have gone with before at the position and the current depth, any missed time for Mostert could spell trouble. Currently, Mostert is ranked as the RB 27 and will likely be a low end RB 2 with some consistency issues unless he runs away with the starting RB position and can stay healthy all season.
