Sources have stated that the Jets and Packers are having discussions this week regarding a possible trade for Aaron Rodgers. (Rob Demovsky on Twitter)

With free agency starting next week, any deal between the teams would need to be made before Wednesday to ensure both are in compliance with the salary cap. The enigmatic 39-year-old QB emerged from his decision cocoon with no public news regarding his plans for 2023. If the Jets are speaking directly to him, the Packers have permitted him to do so. Rodgers' contract is exceptionally complicated, so any trade would only cost New York $15.8 million toward the cap in 2023 and $32.5 million in 2024. On the other hand, Green Bay would get hit with a $40.3 million "dead" charge this season if he is traded. The Jets have stated that QB Zach Wilson is not considered their primary starter in 2023, so a move of some kind seems likely.
