Marcus Mariota won't play in preseason opener

by Jordan Epp | Commanders Correspondent | Wed, Aug 6th 11:20am EDT

Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota did not travel with the team to New England and will not play in the preseason opener with a "low" concern lower leg strain. (Nicki Jhabvala on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Mariota served as Jayden Daniels' backup during his rookie year and is returning for a second season in D.C. The veteran QB started zero games in 2024 but did attempt 44 passes over three appearances. He is expected to be out for 7-10 days, but he should be good for the start of the season. Josh Johnson and Sam Hartman will likely lead the Commanders under center during the preseason.
