CB - SF
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the 49ers have re-signed CB Jason Verrett to a one-year, $5.5M deal.
After starting 13 games and totaling 60 tackles and two interceptions for the 49ers in 2020, Verrett will be staying in San Francisco for 2021. The 1-year deal is worth $5.5M and could potentially go up to $6.5M if Verrett makes the Pro Bowl. This is a move that makes a lot of sense for the 49ers especially with the likely departure of Richard Sherman.
CB Jason Verrett is re-signing with the 49ers on a one-year deal.
The former 2014 first-round pick of the Chargers spent five seasons with them before joining the 49ers in 2019. Verrett only played one game for San Francisco prior to being put on the IR with a season-ending injury. He’ll look to regain his health and provide the 49ers with some depth in the secondary in 2020.
Verrett will miss the entire preseason while dealing with an ankle injury, Adam Schefter reports.
San Francisco is hopeful he'll be back for Week 1 of the regular season, though no timetable is available for his return. Nick Bosa is dealing with a similar injury that will force him to miss the preseason as well.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Jason Verrett will sign a one-year, $3.6 million deal with the 49ers.
It's a low risk signing for San Francisco. Verrett was once thought to be a future shutdown corner but has since dealt with an ACL injury and a torn achilles, the latter of which he suffered last July.
According to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett suffered an injury during his conditioning test that will likely knock him out for the season.
We don't have news on what injury he suffered, but it sounds like Verrett will be placed on injured reserve for the third straight season. After playing at a Pro Bowl level in 2015, Verrett has played a combined 313 snaps over the last two seasons, suffering multiple knee injuries. The Chargers secondary didn't miss a beat without him last year, but his return could've taken them to the next level. With essentially a third straight missed season, Verrett's career may be in jeopardy.
