Winnipeg Jets

Mark Scheifele scored once and added an assist in the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night. Both points for Scheifele came on the powerplay.

Fantasy Impact: Mark Scheifele is up to 4 goals and 8 assists through 8 games played so far this season. The production comes as no surprise with Scheifele as he and Blake Wheeler form one of the most dangerous duo's in the NHL. Signs are pointing to the Jets powerplay starting to click which would be good news for Mark Scheifele owners.

Kyle Connor scored a beautiful backhand goal on the powerplay in the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes last night. Connor finished the game with with 1 goal, 2 SOG and a -2 rating in 22:42 of ice time.

Fantasy Impact: Kyle Connor is up to 3 goals and 1 assist through 8 games played. Connor is off to a slower start than what we're accustomed to with him but it should be noted that he did miss all of training camp without a contract, and has played the whole season on the Jets second line rather than the first line as we have seen in previous years. Better days are ahead for Connor as he is still a staple on the Jets top powerplay unit and has a major role in the top six.

Connor Hellebuyck has started and won three straight games for the Winnipeg Jets. In the first win of his streak he had a .974 save percentage, a .950 in his second win, and a .931 in his most recent win.

Fantasy Impact: If Connor Hellebuyck can continue to post better than league-average numbers, the Jets have shown they have the scoring ability to help make him an elite option in net for fantasy purposes.

Patrik Laine picked up 2 goals and 2 assists in the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild in their home opener. Laine ended the night with 2 goals, 2 assists, 4 SOG, 8 Hits, 1 blocked shot and a +4 rating.

Fantasy Impact: This was a statement game from Finnish sniper Patrik Laine. He is showing that he is more than just a sniper, adding 7 assists so far this season and using his size to his advantage all over the ice.

Ville Heinola converted on a one-timer for his first NHL goal in the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night. Heinola finished the game with 1 goal, a +3 rating, 2 PIMS and 1 SOG in 17:23 of ice time.

Fantasy Impact: Ville Heinola has certainly been a pleasant surprise to open the Winnnipeg Jets 2019-20 season. The eighteen-year old is making the most of his opportunities thus far. He has 3 points in 4 games played. It's a little early to buy into the Heinola hype for fantasy purposes in re-draft leagues as we are not even sure if he will stay with the Jets for the whole season, however if you play in a dynasty or keeper league now would be a good time to grab him and stash him on your bench. If he stays up with the Jets past the 9 game mark of the season and continues to impress, his role will continue to grow as will his production. The Jets are incredibly thin on their blueline, so the path for Heinola to be fantasy relevant is certainly there.

Laurent Brossoit was in goal for the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 comeback win on Friday night against the New Jersey Devils. Jets coach Paul Maurice turned back to Brossoit for a second start in a row when the Jets dropped a 4-1 decision to the New York Islanders on Sunday night.

Fantasy Impact: Perhaps it is a bit of an attempt by Jets coach Paul Maurice to send a message to his #1 net-minder Connor Hellebuyck that he simply needs to be better, or simply a reward for Laurent Brossoit after playing well and helping the Jets earn their first win of the season. Either way this situation is one that should be monitored closely, as it seems Connor Hellebuyck's #1 job could be challenged more this year. Brossoit could be a serviceable streaming option if he continues to get more starts.

Blake Wheeler scored twice in the Winnipeg Jets season opener on Thursday night. In addition to his two goals, Wheeler added 9 SOG, 3 hits, 1 blocked shot and a +1 rating in 22:50 of ice time.

Fantasy Impact: Wheeler should once again be a top end RW in the league for fantasy purposes. He plays with elite talent on his line, and has tremendous playmaking ability. Wheeler is a good bet to put up 90+ points again this season if he stays healthy.

Bryan Little was unable to play in the Winnipeg Jets season opening loss to the New York Rangers on Thursday night as he works his way through the NHL concussion protocol. Little took a hit to the head from Luke Kunin of the Minnesota Wild in the Jets final pre-season game. Little has not been placed on IR, so the sense is he will be able to return sooner rather than later.

Fantasy Impact: We will have to wait and see where Bryan Little will slot in when he returns from injury. If he finds himself between Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine on the Jets second line he will have some fantasy appeal in deeper leagues. However he might find himself on the wing alongside Adam Lowry on the Jets third line and play more of a checking role, which would reduce his fantasy appeal immensely.

Nikolaj Ehlers had three assists in the Winnipeg Jets season opener on Thursday night. Ehlers skated with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler on the Jets top line. Along with his 3 assists, Ehlers added 8 SOG and a +2 rating in 18:14 of ice time.

Fantasy Impact: While it's nice to see Ehlers add three assists last night, it is even more encouraging to see him put 8 shots on goal. If he can stay up on the top line with Scheifele and Wheeler while continuing to have a shooters mentality, we could be looking at a massive breakout season for Nikolaj Ehlers.

Dustin Byfuglien is currently away from the Winnipeg Jets training camp and is reportedly pondering his future in the NHL. There is no timeline for a decision, though it sounds like the Jets will give him all the time he needs to figure it out. (Source: Bob McKenzie on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Losing Byfuglien on the Winnipeg Jets blueline would be a catastrophic loss for the team, especially after seeing Jacob Trouba traded to the New York Rangers in the offseason. In addition to losing Trouba, the Jets also lost Tyler Myers and Ben Chiarot via free agency. If Byfuglien does decide to retire, move Josh Morrissey way up your defense rankings as he would likely quarterback the Jets top powerplay unit.

Josh Morrissey has signed an eight-year, $50 contract extension with the Winnipeg Jets. The contract carries an annual cap hit of $6.25 million. (Source: TSN)

Fantasy Impact: Josh Morrissey had a productive season in 2018-19, putting up 39 points in just 59 games. The 24 year-old should have another productive season in 2019-20. The departure of both Jacob Trouba and Tyler Myers has left the Jets with a lot of minutes to fill on the back-end. Josh Morrissey will be a main beneficiary of the vacated minutes and opportunity in Winnipeg. Morrissey will see increased playing time this year — he set a career-high with 22:24 minutes in 2018-19— as well as a greater role on the power play. Josh Morrissey's point totals have increased every year he has been in the NHL, and 2019-20 should see that trend continue. Morrissey certainly has some fantasy break-out appeal.

An independent arbitrator has awarded Andrew Copp a two-year contract extension, with an annual value of $2.28 million. (Source: Sportsnet )

Fantasy Impact: Copp had a career-high 11 goals last season, to go along with 25 points, in only 69 games. He would have easily topped his career-high in points as well, 28 points in 2017-18, had he not missed time on two separate occasions last season. Copp has become an important player for the Jets, but ultimately offers little in fantasy. He will need to move out of his current bottom-six role if he is going to have any impact in fantasy.

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Tyler Myers has signed with the Vancouver Canucks Monday for five years worth $30 million. (Source: Yahoo Sports)

Fantasy Impact: In six seasons with the Jets, Myers has scored 45 goals and 151 points through 365 games played. He will add a much needed physical presence to a young Vancouver blue line this year.

Marko Dano to become an UFA

Tue, Jun 25th 2:49pm EDT
By Douglas Roth

The Winnipeg Jets decided to not extend a qualifying offer to Marco Dano. He is set to become an Unrestricted Free Agent. (Source: Sara Orlesky on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Dano has not played well since his rookie season with the Blue Jackets in 2014-2015. He may return to the KHL. Where Dano played before he was a first round pick back in 2013.

Nathan Beaulieu will become an Unrestricted Free Agent as the Jets did not extend a qualifying offer. (Source: Sara Orlesky on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Europe is most likely a better option for Nathan Beaulieu. He has no fantasy value.

The Winnipeg Jets have decided to trade away Kevin Hayes to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a 2019 fifth-round pick. (Source: Philadelphia Flyers on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: During 71 games played this year, Kevin Hayes recorded a career-high 55 total points with the New York Rangers and Winnipeg Jets. It will be interesting to see how Hayes produces as he will be reunited with head coach Alain Vigneault once again in Philadelphia.

Brandon Tanev scored a goal to help put the Jets up 4-2 against the Blues Sunday night.

Fantasy Impact: Tanev provided his first point of the post-season with his goal scored during Sunday's 6-3 win in Game Three.

Jacob Trouba scored the only Jets goal in their 5-1 loss to the Wild. He had one goal, one SHG and three SOG in 19:08 of ice-time.

Fantasy Impact: Trouba's shorty was nice to see in an otherwise feeble effort by the Jets. It being the second of a back-to-back they deserve a little bit of a leash. The Jets are tied for first and own the tiebreaker so look for a better effort next time out against the Avalanche.

Eric Comrie allowed five goals in the Jets 5-1 loss to the Wild on Tuesday. He saved 23-28 shots against while taking the loss.

Fantasy Impact: Comrie was forced to start in the second day of a back-to-back due to an injury. He is not fantasy relevant nor will he be in the foreseeable future.

Jack Roslovic pots two

Tue, Apr 2nd 10:32am EDT
By Douglas Roth

Jack Roslovic scored twice in the Jets 4-3 overtime win against the Blackhawks on Monday. He was a plus two with two goals on five SOG in 10:56 of ice-time.

Fantasy Impact: Roslovic continued the recent trend in which the big guns are shooting blanks but the bottom six forwards are carrying them. Roslovic now has 9 goals and 15 assists thru 74 games.
