DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Monday (6/25)

DraftKings MLB Value Plays: Monday (6/25)
If you are looking for a homer at catcher, Zunino could do the trick

Typically, Monday’s are a little tricky when it comes to finding value, but that’s usually due to the smaller amount of games on the slate. Today’s featured slate on DraftKings has a certain degree of difficulty once again, but tonight it’s due to the tight pricing across the site. This ten-game slate has several enticing starting pitchers to choose from. Most of those arms are above $9,000 with some well above that range. To get guys like Justin Verlander in your lineup, we’ll need to dig out some value plays just like we always do no matter how tight prices get. Ready? Let’s go!

Pitcher

Jonathan Loaisiga (NYM): $7,300 @ PHI

Loaisiga (-151) has a nice matchup with major strikeout upside after coming off a rough go. He’ll get the swing-happy Phillies who come into Monday with a 26.5% K rate against RHP, the worst in baseball. Run support shouldn’t be an issue as the Yankees sit on a five-run implied team total. He’s yet to allow a home run in his first two starts and I think that makes him lower risk and a safer play than Shelby Miller if he cuts down on the walks.

Other Notables

Shelby Miller (ARI): $6,500 @ MIA

Catcher

Mike Zunino (SEA): $3,400 @ BAL

The Mariners are my favorite stack on the slate and the ballpark factor is a nice start. Then, you factor in the matchup against Andrew Cashner and Zunino’s recent batted ball data being favorable and you have the makings for him to showcase his raw power with those elevated hard hit and flyball rates. He’s a good option if you can’t afford one of the catchers in the Cleveland at Saint Louis game where both backstops are firmly in play.

Other Notables

Kurt Suzuki (ATL): $3,700 vs. CIN

First Base

Eric Hosmer (SD): $3,800 @ TEX

Hosmer has put up solid hard hit data throughout his career without the piles of home runs you’d expect as a result. The same bodes true again this season as he belts the ball, but doesn’t have a ton of HRs to show for it. The extreme shift in park factor is favorable and the price is low enough for me to take a chance in tournaments. Greg Bird (NYY): $3,700 @ PHI is another viable GPP play for cheap. For cash games, I like Justin Bour a bit more.

Other Notables

Justin Bour (MIA): $3,500 vs. ARI

Second Base

Ketel Marte (ARI): $3,800 @ MIA

Marte has been hot, smacking five dingers in June. Most of Marte’s damage is coming against southpaws, but he’s been bumped up to second in the order and that’s fairly appetizing against Dan Straily, a pitcher who has been getting rocked by bad teams. Straily has been routinely giving up runs versus some of the worst lineups in the league. Last time out, he posted a horrific -7.2 DK points before getting tossed out early for bean balling.

Other Notables

Asdrubal Cabrera (NYM): $3,700 vs. PIT

Third Base

Isiah Kiner-Falefa (TEX): $3,600 vs. SD (also 2B eligible)

The Flyin’ Hawaiian is sporting some solid hard hit rates the past two weeks with spiked exit velocities as well. If you’re stacking Rangers, which I think is a sneaky move, you need to include him in your stack. I expect one of the whiff-prone sluggers to sit for Texas and that should give Kiner-Falefa another start. He’s more of a GPP play, but if you have $200 more, you can feel better about running out Justin Turner.

Other Notables

Justin Turner (LAD): $3,800 vs. CHC

Shortstop

Johan Camargo $3,400 and Dansby Swanson $3,500 (ATL): vs. CIN

Camargo is another guy I’ll be using at the hot corner as some of my early roster construction has me primarily paying up at SS and taking advantage of his multi-positional eligibility at 3B. However, if you’re looking for value in the shortstop spot, which is why you’re here, I like both Braves options tonight. Swanson is basically breaking out this season as so many post-hype sleepers do. He’s showing more pop against southpaws, but is getting on base at a steady clip versus RHP. Same deal with Camargo, his power is in full-effect against lefties but he’s still hitting righties consistently as well. I really like stacking up the bottom half of that Braves lineup tonight as they’re really cheap and offer a lot of under-the-radar upside on tonight’s slate.

Outfield

Hunter Renfroe (SDP): $3,600 @ TEX

More guys with high-hard hit rates and robust exit velocities please! Renfroe fits the bill there, friends. Over the past two weeks, he’s seen a nice uptick in those batted ball metrics and over the course of this season he’s crushing southpaws to the tune of a .233 ISO, .358 wOBA and 130 wRC+. The positive shift in hitting environment also makes Renfroe a nice high-upside play tonight. He’s in play in all formats as he should bat third.

Marwin Gonzalez (HOU): $3,500 vs. TOR (also 1B eligible)

The Astros offense has brought in summer by absolutely getting it done in the offensive categories and Gonzalez has got in the mix in too with a stretch of six games in which he put up ten hits. He’s cooled a bit this last week but still has significant hard hit data over the past two weeks and he’ll likely see some good pitches if he bats in front of Evan Gattis. Just like he always is, MarGon offers lineup flexibility while being priced affordably.

Lonnie Chisenhall (CLE): $3,300 @ STL

Chisenhall has been more of a platoon guy in his career but he’s actually been hitting lefty pitching a bit better this year which is the main reason his 2018 season numbers look solid when it comes to getting on base. He carries a .357 wOBA and 126 wRC+ coming into Monday’s action, but has still yet to go deep in 2018. The underlying stats are there, you just have to trust that he’ll go deep soon, but for now, take the extra base hits he’s getting.

Other Notables

Brett Gardner (NYY): $3,800 @ PHI
Charlie Culberson (ATL): $3,200 vs. CIN (also 3B eligible)
