9 Top Late-Round Quarterback Targets (2021 Fantasy Football)

9 Top Late-Round Quarterback Targets (2021 Fantasy Football)

For years, it’s become clear that waiting on the quarterback position can pay dividends. This strategy allows drafters to focus on other positions that tend to have less depth and require more starting positions on fantasy rosters, such as wide receiver and running back.

However, simply drafting a quarterback late doesn’t guarantee fantasy success. You have to know the right signal-callers to target.

Continuing our collaborative series, we’re asking our writers for their top late-round quarterbacks. These are players ranked outside our top-12 at the quarterback position in our Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR).

There is a wide range of players listed above. Our writers offered a mix of rookies, second-year players, and veterans.

Trevor Lawrence garnered the most votes, as several writers prefer the throwing and rushing upside of the No. 1 overall pick. Two other dynamic rookies Trey Lance and Justin Fields received votes. While there are questions around when the pair will start for their respective teams, there is a lot of excitement in the fantasy community about the upside they both provide. A common strategy discussed on our FantasyPros Fantasy Football Podcast is pairing one of these rookies with a solid veteran.

Speaking of veterans, three make an appearance on this list, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Taysom Hill also checks in as a late QB with upside. His ECR is suppressed given the questions that continue to surround the Saints' quarterback situation.

Joe Burrow falls just outside the top 12 for many, including our experts who are hesitant to draft the former No. 1 overall pick as he comes back from season-ending surgery. Burrow's fellow 2020 NFL Draft classmate, Tua Tagovailoa, also received a nomination from our writers. His arm and legs give him intriguing upside despite some of the struggles he had as a rookie.
