Fantasy Football QB1 Primer: Week 6 (2021)

Fantasy Football QB1 Primer: Week 6 (2021)

Boy, oh boy, are there a lot of good streaming options this week. Unfortunately, however, the same can’t be said about our mid-range passers for Week 6.

It seems like either the best passers or the streamers are getting the juicy matchups this week, with not many enticing options in between.

With that being said, let’s jump into the Week 6 QB1 Primer.

Week 5 Recap

Mid-Range QB1 Picks

Jalen Hurts (QB – PHI)QB7 in Week 5

Kirk Cousins (QB – MIN)QB21 in Week 5

Joe Burrow (QB – CIN)QB15 in Week 5

We had some modest success with our mid-range picks this week. Hurts put up good numbers against Carolina. However, Burrow fell short of QB1 status, and Cousins naturally couldn’t take advantage of a favorable matchup.

Streaming Options

Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAX)QB9 in Week 5

Zach Wilson (QB – NYJ): QB30 in Week 5

Jacoby Brissett (QB – MIA): QB19 in Week 5

We hit on one rookie QB, but Zach Wilson is banned from this list until further notice. So hopefully, Brissett will never even be considered again.

Week 6 Mid-Range Passers with QB1 Upside

Matthew Stafford (QB – LAR) vs. New York Giants

Stafford could go off this week in a game where he’s favored by more than 10 points on the road. The Giants have a decent pass defense but have still surrendered 10 passing touchdowns on the season.

Jalen Hurts vs. Tampa Bay

This is a tricky one because for Hurts to finish as a QB1 in Week 6, he’ll likely have to do it with his arm. And that terrifies me. Tampa Bay’s defensive strength is its front seven, which hasn’t allowed anyone to penetrate it on the ground. However, the Buccaneers are beaten up in the secondary and have been exposed throughout the year. So hurts needs a solid passing performance for the Eagles to have a chance.

Week 6 Streaming Options

Taylor Heinicke (QB – WAS) vs. Kansas City

This one almost feels too obvious to work out. Heinicke isn’t even ranked as a streamer this week, as he’s the QB12 in our Expert Consensus Rankings. But there are two things I know: Heinicke isn’t afraid to sling the ball, and the Kansas City Chiefs have given up the most points to quarterbacks in standard settings.

Davis Mills (QB – HOU) vs. Indianapolis

Davis Mills showed a pulse last week. That’s not giving him enough credit. Mills threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns against a Bill Belichick-coached defense. Rookies typically don’t do that against Belichick. Now, Mills faces a banged-up Colts secondary that can’t stop anyone. He might not carve the Colts up like Lamar Jackson did Monday night, but Mills could deliver another QB1 week.

Trevor Lawrence vs. Miami

I know, I put a rookie QB going to London for the first time in this column last week, and it burnt me. But Lawrence is improving by the week and faces a Dolphins secondary that’s been generous to opposing QBs.

Mac Jones (QB – NE) vs. Dallas

Another rookie, of course. But the matchup is in Jones’ favor. The Cowboys’ defense isn’t that good. They’ve given up the second-most passing yards in the league this year but have been bailed out by ten interceptions in five games! That’s an insane rate that’s sure to regress. So if the Patriots let Jones throw, he could have some success.

Ben Roethlisberger (QB – PIT) vs. Seattle

Yeah, it’s ugly. But, remember when I said up top that some of these are more appetizing than others? Well, this is the broccoli pick. Big Ben’s arm could fall off at any moment, but he should have success against a pretty lousy Seattle secondary.
