TopPropFantasy Battleground is finally here.

What is Battleground?

TopProp’s Battleground allows users to create head-to-head matchups based on projected fantasy points. Similar to their team challenge mode, there will be bonus points assigned to the underdog, essentially creating a margin that the favored team will have to win by. Seem simple enough? It is, and that’s the beauty. You can issue challenges to friends, league mates, rivals, or the TopProp community as a whole. The league challenges were fun, but the Battleground has a chance to revolutionize the fantasy space, and we are excited about it.

Let’s take a look at the challenges we have created for Week 10. We have kept them as free contests so those who feel inclined can test out the new mode before laying down cash in future weeks.

For Week 10’s Battleground, the two challenges I created are Mike Evans vs. Tyreek Hill and Michael Pittman vs. Justin Jefferson. The players involved in both matchups have similar outlooks so I opted to side with the less-heralded players with better matchups while trying to entice users to accept the challenge due to getting to select players often viewed as superior options.

Mike Evans is set to explode in Week 10. He always had a great outlook due to facing off against Washington’s soft cornerback group but his fantasy floor and ceiling sees a massive boost with Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski ruled out. Chris Godwin, who is a game-time decision with a foot injury, appears to be on the wrong side of questionable and could be more decoy than an actual focal point, if active. Evans has been hit or miss enough this season that some fantasy managers should still opt to choose Tyreek due to his consistency this season. Tyreek has been up and down as well but is averaging 7.6 receptions for 85.8 receiving yards per game compared to 4.9 receptions for 68 receiving yards per game for Evans. Mike Evans holds the touchdown edge by a count of eight to six. Evans with the expanded opportunity and the two bonus points should give Tyreek a run for his money, especially if the latter sees a heavy dose of Raiders star corner Casey Hayward.

The second challenge, Michael Pittman vs. Justin Jefferson is much closer than I expected it to be from a projected point and, as a result, bonus point perspective. Pittman only gets 0.5 bonus points when facing off against Justin Jefferson, who set records as a rookie and was in the same rookie class as Pittman. That just goes to show how much Pittman has impressed with his development this season. The Colts second-year receiver has put up 5.6 receptions for 73.1 receiving yards per game, compared to 5.8 receptions for 78 yards per game from Jefferson. The fact that Pittman has played games without Carson Wentz makes these numbers even more intriguing. Pittman has the easier Week 10 matchup, facing off against a Jaguars team that has allowed the 13th most fantasy points to the wide receiver position whole the Cardinals have allowed the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game to enemy wideouts. Fantasy gamers may be wise to what I am trying to do wit my challenges by now, so it will be interesting to see how many bites we get on Jefferson this week.
