We made it. We finally made it. Football is here. Our wonderful, glorious sporting addiction has returned to our television screens. With Preseason NFL kicking off across the league, it’s a perfect time to revisit our series focused on overpriced players you should avoid on NFFC.
As mentioned in our June and July editions of this article,” the National Fantasy Football Championship (NFFC) has been at the forefront of the high-stakes fantasy football conversation since 2004,” and they continue offering a wide range of tournament options.
Average Draft Position shifts are somewhat stagnant during the dog days of summer, but training camp and this weekend’s preseason action are certain to cause some overreactions across the drafting world. For now, we’re looking at ADP in non-Superflex leagues from 8/5 – 8/12 to judge these three overpriced players you should avoid on NFFC.

Overpriced Players To Avoid on NFFC (2023 Fantasy Football)
Javonte Williams (RB – DEN) NFFC ADP 60.19 (RB18) | ECR 79 (RB25)
Denver running back Javonte Williams is the ultimate boom/bust selection in your fantasy drafts this season. You see that in the wide range of opinions in our FantasyPros Expert Consensus Rankings.
After tearing his ACL and LCL last October, most forecasted Williams to begin the season on PUP (Physically Unable to Perform). Remarkably, Williams is back on the football field and is “100%” according to head coach Sean Payton.
Despite that, I’m skeptical of his rising ADP on NFFC. You can be 100% cleared for contact and still not be back to 100% of Javonte Williams. Anytime a multi-ligament knee injury is involved, there’s a concern for effectiveness and workload in the initial weeks or months of recovery.
The Denver running back very well could be 100%, and if so, a rising ADP is probably fair. Just know the risks involved and don’t be surprised if he’s given a smaller slice of the pie to begin the season. The Broncos signed veteran Samaje Perine in the offseason and he figures to be involved regardless of Williams’ health.
Jerry Jeudy (WR – DEN) NFFC ADP 37.02 (WR19) | ECR45 (WR24)
I like Jerry Jeudy. He flashed at the end of last season, and he possesses the ability to explode for 20+ fantasy points on any given week. However, I’m weary of over-drafting wide receivers attached to potentially atrocious offenses.
Some people are just assuming head coach Sean Payton will come in and immediately fix Denver’s offense. That seems like a tall task based on what we’ve seen from quarterback Rusell Wilson during his Broncos tenure.
And as much as Payton wants to blame former head coach Nathaniel Hackett for all of Wilson’s issues a season ago, the quarterback is also accountable for his play. Wilson was a bottom-ten quarterback in the league last season as he finished with career lows in completion percentage, touchdown passes, and QB rating.
The Broncos don’t offer much target competition, so that works in Jeudy’s favor. I like the potential that rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims brings to the table, but Courtland Sutton looked pretty dusty last season, and they’re rolling out Adam Trautman as a starting tight end.
The target share should be there for Jeudy, but I worry about the touchdown upside on this offense. I don’t mind drafting him around his ECR ranking of WR24, but his current standing as WR19 on NFFC is a bit too rich for me.
D’Andre Swift (RB – DET) NFFC ADP 66.41 (RB23) | ECR 83 (RB28)
Despite finding himself in a three-headed running back by committee, Eagles running back D’Andre Swift is being drafted as the RB23 at 66.41 overall over the past week over on NFFC. Meanwhile, our FantasyPros Expert Consensus Rankings have Swift ranked as the RB28 and the 83rd-overall player on the big board.
I’ve long been a “Swift truther,” and my dynasty teams would benefit from a career resurrection in Philadelphia, but I tend to lean with the ECR on this one. Swift has the talent to become a top running back in this league, but there are a lot of mouths to feed in that backfield.
The Eagles seem intent on using a committee also featuring fellow newcomer Rashaad Penny and the incumbent Kenny Gainwell. In these unclear backfields, I tend to prefer the cheaper options like Penny (ADP 114) and Gainwell (ADP 160.5) over the most expensive third-wheel.
