Closer News & Notes

We have a new leader in saves in the MLB as Andres Munoz now leads the league with 17 saves. He has yet to allow an earned run this season with 28 strikeouts to just eight walks over 22.2 innings.

Robert Suarez blew his latest save chance in extra innings against the Padres on Thursday. He remains one of the top closers in the MLB and fantasy baseball.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said earlier this week that he has “no plans right now” to re-insert Devin Williams into the team’s closer role. Luke Weaver remains the team’s closer.

After a rocky start to the season, Jordan Romano has yet to allow a run over eight appearances in May. He has inserted himself into the clear closer role in the Phillies’ bullpen.

The Diamondbacks activated Justin Martinez from the injured list (IL) on Friday. It is not clear if he is going to regain the closer role right away, but the opportunity certainly is open for him to do so.

Ryan Walker remains the closer in the Giants’ bullpen for now, but Camilo Doval has been dominant as well, not allowing a run through nine appearances in May. Doval continues to hold value for fantasy managers despite not currently being in the closer role for the Giants.
