Fantasy Baseball Streaming Pitchers: Waiver Wire Targets (2025)

Finding good starting pitchers can be a weekly struggle. I aim to solve this headache during this season by finding the best pitchers, every week, who are on most waiver wires. I will use the FantasyPros streaming pitchers tool to find league roster percentage information.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Assistant Analyze Moves Who To Pick Up

First, let’s take a look at last week’s picks:

  • JP Sears (@TEX): 5.2 Innings, 7 Strikeouts, 1 Earned Run, 5 Hits, 0 Walks, (Win)
  • Reese Olson (@HOU): 5.2 Innings, 7 Strikeouts, 3 Earned Runs, 4 Hits, 3 Walks (Loss)
  • Shane Smith (vs. MIL): 5.0 Innings, 4 Strikeouts, 1 Earned Run, 6 Hits, 3 Walks (No Decision)
  • Chad Patrick (@CWS): 5.2 Innings, 4 Strikeouts, 3 Earned Runs, 6 Hits, 0 Walks (Loss)

Total: 22.0 Innings, 22 Strikeouts, 8 Earned Runs, 21 Hits, 6 Walks (1-2)

Considering these pitchers were at the bottom of free agency, this was not a bad week. Strikeouts looked good, and no pitchers had horrific starts. Let’s aim for more of this for the upcoming week.

Without further delay, below are my picks for pitchers to stream during Week 5, from Monday, May 5, to Sunday, May 11.

Fantasy Baseball Streaming Pitchers

Monday, May 5

Shane Smith (SP- CWS) @KC | 10% Rostered

Shane Smith did not disappoint last week and has made it to this week’s list as a result. Smith is not going to blow anyone away with a grand performance, but he should be a decent streaming option against the Royals. If you had to pick just one starter to stream from this list, I would not recommend Smith. However, if you had to pick a starter from Monday, then Smith should get the job done. There are fewer options on Monday because fewer games are being played.

Alternative: Matthew Boyd (SP – CHC) vs. SF | 15% Rostered

Tuesday, May 6

Hayden Wesneski (SP – HOU) @MIL | 13% Rostered

Hayden Wesneski has been a bright spot on a slow-starting Astros team. The converted reliever has been very efficient this season, with a 1.00 WHIP and just four walks across 28.0 innings with 26 strikeouts. Wesneski will also be making this start with extra rest after skipping last week to recover from a starter workload. Wesneski’s efficiency and extra rest make him a valuable streamer against the Brewers.

Alternative: David Peterson (SP – NYM) | @ARI | 14% Rostered

Wednesday, May 7

Gunnar Hoglund (SP – ATH) vs. SEA | 7% Rostered

If you take away one thing from this article, add Gunnar Hoglund. The 25-year-old rookie had a 2.43 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts across 29.2 innings of Triple-A baseball this season. Even better, he struck out seven across six innings of one-run baseball against the Marlins in his MLB debut. Will Hoglund stick around and become a star? Only time will tell. Regardless, please start Hoglund against the Mariners and consider keeping him around if he continues to perform.

Alternative: Matthew Liberatore (SP – STL) vs. PIT | 10% Rostered

Thursday, May 8

Tomoyuki Sugano (SP – BAL) @MIN | 8% Rostered

As long as Tomoyuki Sugano continues to be available in most leagues, I will continue to add him to this list. The Oriole does not get strikeouts and has a 4.6 K/9 ratio. However, Sugano struck out eight Yankees in his most recent start across five scoreless innings. The dominant start is a good sign that Sugano may be approaching the average 7.7 K/9 he had for 12 seasons in Japan. Start the righty against the Twins, whose .672 OPS ranks in the bottom ten of all MLB teams.

Alternative: Jose Soriano (SP – LAA) vs. TOR | 12% Rostered

Friday, May 9

Bryce Elder (SP – ATL) @PIT | 1% Rostered

Like Shane Smith from earlier in the list, Bryce Elder is not the most exciting streamer this week. Friday is another day without many promising starters, at least on paper. Even so, Elder is currently coming off back-to-back quality starts against the Cardinals and Rockies. You should trust Elder against the Pirates, who rank in the bottom five for most team-hitting stats.

Alternative: Jordan Hicks (SP – SF) @MIN | 7% Rostered

Saturday, May 10

Logan Evans (SP – SEA) TOR | 3% Rostered

Logan Evans made his major league debut on April 27 against the Marlins, allowing a modest two runs in five innings. He struck three and walked three. Evans showed room for improvement, but he also showed promise. The 23-year-old has a 3.05 ERA across all levels of the minors and an 8.3 K/9. The Mariners usually know what they are doing with pitching prospects, so it is worth starting Evans against the Blue Jays.

Alternative: Shane Smith (SP – CWS) vs. MIA | 10% Rostered

Sunday, May 11

Matthew Boyd (SP – CHC) @NYM | 15% Rostered

Matthew Boyd is a great start for Sunday, especially in leagues where pitcher wins are counted. The 34-year-old has been a journeyman during recent seasons but seems to have found a nice home in Chicago, contributing to the Cubs’ blazing 20-13 start of the season. Although the Mets are not a bad offensive team by any measure, Boyd should be trusted as a streamer.

Alternative: Lucas Giolito (SP – BOS) @KC | 6% Rostered
