First, let’s take a look at last week’s picks:
- Janson Junk (@CIN): 6.0 Innings, 3 Strikeouts, 0 Earned Runs, 1 Hit, 2 Walks (Win)
- Will Warren (vs. SEA): 5.2 Innings, 4 Strikeouts, 0 Earned Runs, 4 Hits, 2 Walks (Win)
- Lucas Giolito (vs. COL): 6.0 Innings, 6 Strikeouts, 0 Earned Runs, 4 Hits, 0 Walks (Win)
- Logan Allen (vs. CWS): 6.0 Innings, 5 Strikeouts, 2 Earned Runs, 1 Hit, 2 Walks (Win)
- Dean Kremer (vs. MIA): 7.0 Innings, 7 Strikeouts, 0 Earned Runs, 3 Hits, 1 Walk (Win)
- Trevor Rogers (vs. MIA): 6.2 Innings, 8 Strikeouts, 1 Earned Run, 2 Hits, 2 Walks (Loss)
- Nick Martinez (vs. COL): 5.1 Innings, 3 Strikeouts, 2 Earned Runs, 5 Hits, 1 Walk (Win)
Total: 42.2 Innings, 36 Strikeouts, 5 Earned Runs, 20 Hits, 10 Walks (6-1)
Wow. This was the best week we have ever had for streamers, by a landslide. Allowing only five runs across even starts is simply unbelievable. Even starters I was less certain about, like Logan Allen and Dean Kremer, put together gems. I am extremely happy with our results this week. Because these results were so good, it is nearly impossible for this upcoming week to be better. Regardless, let’s give it a shot and target more excellent streamers.
Without further delay, below are my picks for pitchers to stream during Week 17, from Monday, July 21st to Sunday, July 27th.
Monday, July 21st
Matthew Liberatore (SP – COL) @COL | 29% Rostered
Matthew Liberatore is having a decent season, and he is in a position to play the worst team in baseball. There is a serious strategy in streaming decent pitchers against the worst teams in baseball. We all know the Rockies are bad.
They have a dismal winning percentage of .229. History says Liberatore has a great chance to pick up a win here, as well as some strikeouts, as the Rockies have an MLB-high 933 offensive strikeouts. Stream Liberatore against a bad team.
Alternative: Cade Horton (SP – CHC) @KC | 5% Rostered
Tuesday, July 22nd
Hayden Birdsong (SP – SF) @ATL | 4% Rostered
Hayden Birdsong has been inconsistent this season and is a risky streaming option on a day without many great streaming options off the waiver wire. Birdsong has a 4.11 ERA and 1.42 WHIP this season.
Birdsong has been just below average with a 95 ERA+. The stars do not exactly align for Birdsong to pitch a stellar gem against the 42-53 Braves, but his average season suggests he should have a solid outing against such a disappointing team.
Alternative: Chris Flexen (SP – CHC) @KC | 1% Rostered
Wednesday, July 23rd
Quinn Priester (SP – MIL) @SEA | 20% Rostered
Quinn Priester has shown flashes of dominance this season, especially through a seven-inning shutout against the Rockies, where he struck out 11.
Priester has made the most of his transitory role as a starter and bulk reliever, pitching to a 3.55 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. The Mariners are very formidable with a .744 team OPS, but Priester has what it takes to put together a solid performance.
Alternative: Colin Rea (SP – CHC) vs. KC | 9% Rostered
Thursday, July 24th
Eric Lauer (SP – TOR) @DET | 8% Rostered
Eric Lauer is another pitcher who has made the most of his role as both a starter and a bulk reliever. Lauer is projected to get the traditional start against the Tigers, and his elite pitching ratios make him a great streaming option.
Lauer has a glimmering 2.78 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 2025, as well as a 9.5 K/9 rate. Stream the lefty against the Tigers.
Alternative: Tyler Anderson (SP – LAA) vs. SEA | 7% Rostered
Friday, July 25th
Michael Wacha (SP – KC) vs. CLE | 19% Rostered
Michael Wacha against the Guardians looks to be a nice matchup. The 34-year-old is putting together another solid season, with a 3.74 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. A big reason Wacha is available in most leagues this year is a decreased strikeout rate — Wacha has a 7.1 K/9 ratio this season, compared to a 7.8 K/9 ratio in 2024 and an 8.3 K/9 rate in 2023.
Despite limited strikeouts, Wacha has strung together a nice season outside of a rough performance in Seattle. Stream Wacha against the Guardians, who hit just .206 in June and are hitting only .200 so far in July.
Alternative: Gavin Williams (SP – CLE) @KC | 18% Rostered
Saturday, July 26th
Randy Vasquez (SP – SD) @STL | 2% Rostered
Randy Vasquez is yet another streamer selected because of limited competition. He has good numbers with a 3.80 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, but is not getting too far with a ridiculously low 4.8 K/9 rate.
Although Vasquez will not strike out many, he should limit damage against the Cardinals, who are about average with a team OPS of .715. However, remember that Saturday does not have many good waiver options. Vasquez seems like the worst player on this week’s list and should only be streamed if truly necessary.
Alternative: Bryce Elder (SP – ATL) @TEX | 2% Rostered
Sunday, July 27th
Ryne Nelson (SP – ARI) @PIT | 20% Rostered
Ryne Nelson has had quite the run since joining the Diamondbacks’ rotation. As a starter, Nelson has thrown 33.1 innings and allowed nine runs, striking out 27. He has been excellent.
I love Nelson against the Pirates, who have the second-worst team OPS (.639)
Alternative: Joey Cantillo (SP – CLE) @KC | 3% Rostered
