Fantasy Football Mock Draft
Today, we take a look at my latest fantasy football mock draft, using half-PPR settings along with Yahoo’s standard roster: 1-QB, 2-RB, 2-WR, 1-Flex, 1-TE, 1-D/ST, 1-Kicker and six bench spots.
1.07: CeeDee Lamb (WR – DAL)
CeeDee Lamb fell into my lap with the seventh overall pick, and I can’t complain about that. Drake London, Puka Nacua and Nico Collins were other receivers available as well. I could make a case for Nacua, but couldn’t pass up Lamb, especially if Dak Prescott stays healthy all season
2.06: Jonathan Taylor (RB – IND)
With the settings set as half-PPR, I wanted to come away with a running back with one of my next two picks. It came down to Jonathan Taylor or Josh Jacobs. Neither has much competition, but I went with the younger Taylor.
3.07: Tee Higgins (WR – CIN)
I was hoping Chase Brown, Kyren Williams or Breece Hall would have made it back to me, but all three were taken within the first six picks of the third round. I settled on Tee Higgins as a solid No. 2 WR. Joe Burrow and the gang should be slinging the ball all over the field once again this season.
4.06: Marvin Harrison Jr. (WR – ARI)
Again, my first thought was running back, but the only appealing backs in this rage were Joe Mixon and Chuba Hubbard. I wasn’t comfortable taking either at this spot. Marvin Harrison Jr. gives me huge upside and big-play ability that fits well in half-PPR formats.
5.07: Aaron Jones (RB – MIN)
Aaron Jones became my RB2 (not thrilled with it), but he should see the majority of the snaps to start the season. His age (31) is a bit of a concern, but he has played 17 regular-season games in two of the last three years while racking up 1,500+ total yards with seven touchdowns last season.
6.06: Kaleb Johnson (RB – PIT)
Kaleb Jonson should have an impact right away in this Steelers offense. He has the physical attributes to be an every-down back and will fit extremely well in Arthur Smith’s zone-running scheme.
7.07: Kyler Murray (QB – ARI)
Kyler Murray gives me a dual-threat quarterback while adding a big-play stack with Marvin Harrison.
8.06: Jordan Mason (RB – MIN)
I wasn’t thrilled with having Aaron Jones as RB2, and as I mentioned, he is getting up there in age. Just in case we see Jones’ age start to set in, we take his 26-year-old handcuff in Jordan Mason.
Mason showed he can ball out when given the opportunity. While Christian McCaffrey was sidelined to start the 2024 season, Mason averaged 107 yards rushing over the first five games of the season before getting hurt himself.
9.07: T.J. Hockenson (TE – MIN)
T.J. Hockenson is undervalued. After his return to the field, he was TE16 in fantasy points per game, which doesn’t seem that great, but a lot of that is because he failed to score a single touchdown despite eight red-zone targets in 10 games.
According to our own Derek Brown, among 47 qualifying tight ends, Hockenson ranked 13th in target share (16.2%), eighth in receiving yards per game (45.5), 15th in yards per route run (1.56) and was fifth-best in first downs per route run.
10.06: Jayden Reed (WR – GB)
Getting a potential No. 1 WR in one of the best offenses in the league with the 10th pick is a steal. Jayden Reed suffered from the sophomore-year slump, but I am expecting a big bounce-back year. Packers pass-catchers had an awful year, leading the league in drops, but with the addition of Matthew Golden, we should see the offense take off.
11.07: Mark Andrews (TE – BAL)
Taking Mark Andrews at this pick is strictly based on value. Andrews’ current average draft position (ADP) is 87, and we nabbed him with the 139th overall pick.
Andrews can be a top-five fantasy tight end once again. He finished last year as the TE7 despite getting off to a slow start. All the hype is on Isaiah Likely, and for good reason, but let’s not forget about Andrews just yet. Buy the dip in all formats.
12.06: Dak Prescott (QB – DAL)
I don’t usually take two quarterbacks, but I had the opportunity to stack CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott, which I couldn’t pass up. At this point in the draft, you are taking shots on bench players that you will most likely cut within the first few weeks anyway.
13.07: Broncos D/ST
We are just throwing darts this late. I wanted to get ahead of the run of defenses, and the opportunity to take the best defense in the NFL presented itself.
14.06: Jake Bates (K – DET)
When taking a kicker, I am looking for someone on an offense that can move the ball and play the majority of their games inside a dome. Jake Bates fits both filters.
15.07: DJ Giddens (RB – IND)
DJ Giddens is a late-round dart throw on what could be a handcuff for Jonathan Taylor. The former KSU running back will battle Khalil Herbert for backup duties this preseason.
