Dynasty Fantasy Football Risers
Tre Tucker (WR – LV)
The 2023 third-round draft pick enjoyed the best day of his career on Sunday, corralling eight of his nine targets for 145 yards and three touchdowns. His 40.9 PPR fantasy points are the highest total of any wide receiver this season. Tre Tucker has now drawn 17 targets across the last two weeks after leading the Raiders in that category on Sunday.
Thus far, Tucker has halted a potential breakout for rookie Dont’e Thornton and appears to be firmly cemented as the Raiders’ No. 2 WR. That will likely come with some spike weeks, like we saw today, but also some quiet outings as Vegas looks to get Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty involved.
Jordan Mason (RB – MIN)
I wrote about Jordan Mason many times in the offseason, noting his potential to lead the Vikings’ backfield over Aaron Jones. With Jones landing on injured reserve (IR), that became a moot point this week, and Mason took full advantage. The fourth-year pro ripped the Bengals’ defense to the tune of 116 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.
With Jones and Ty Chandler on IR, Mason dominated the workload, playing 75% of snaps before garbage time. This should continue to be the outlook across the next few weeks. If Mason continues to play this well, he will likely take a larger share from Jones upon his return.
James Cook (RB – BUF)
Throughout training camp, James Cook‘s contract dispute left his future looking a bit cloudy. Through three weeks, the narrative has shifted while Cook has spent plenty of time in the kitchen, looking like every bit of a No. 1 RB.
On Thursday night, he topped 20 PPR points for the third time in as many games, posting 20.8 points on 108 rushing yards, one touchdown and three receptions for 10 yards. Cook is the RB3 on the season and turns just 26 next week. After securing the bag in an elite offense, the clouds have parted and the sun is shining on Cook’s future.
Quinshon Judkins (RB – CLE)
Having undergone a tumultuous preseason, Quinshon Judkins has put together a quick U-turn, taking over the Browns’ backfield in a few short weeks. After carrying 10 times for 61 yards in his first NFL game, Judkins took 18 of the Browns’ 19 handoffs on Sunday, running for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Judkins ran 14 routes compared to Jerome Ford‘s 15 and three for Dylan Sampson, so there’s room for improvement as a receiver, but he will likely operate as the primary ball-carrier moving forward.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba (WR – SEA)
Across the first two weeks, Jaxon Smith-Njigba saw 23 targets and played the part of a bona fide No. 1 WR, clearing 20 PPR points in each outing. On Sunday, he caught five of his six targets for 94 yards and his first touchdown of the season, and likely would have continued to eat if not for the blowout against the Saints.
Cooper Kupp appears to be a distant second target in the offense while Tory Horton is emerging as a threat, but there’s a whole lot of separation between them and Smith-Njigba as Sam Darnold‘s top target.
Dynasty Fantasy Football Fallers
Brian Thomas Jr. (WR – JAX)
The early returns on the Liam Coen Jaguars offense have been mediocre, without a single receiver becoming a major benefactor. Brian Thomas Jr. caught just two passes for 55 yards on Sunday, with one reception going for 46 yards. Thomas now has reception totals of one, four and two in his three games. Outside of his rushing touchdown in Week 1, Thomas has failed to find the end zone.
The targets have been there, as Thomas saw 19 across the first two weeks before drawing six this week, but he and Trevor Lawrence have failed to connect regularly. Thomas doesn’t appear to be moving the same this season as he was last, which presents a whole new level of problems.
RJ Harvey (RB – DEN)
It’s not yet time to panic on RJ Harvey, but it’s a slower start than most anticipated, even after the Broncos added JK Dobbins. The rookie’s carries have decreased in each week of the season, dropping to just two on Sunday for two yards. Outside of a 50-yard scamper in Week 1, Harvey is averaging just 2.5 yards per carry this season.
The plus side of Sunday’s performance is that Harvey ran 10 routes. While Dobbins ran 19 routes and dominated the workload, Tyler Badie ran one route on two snaps. Turning a three-man backfield into a two-man backfield will greatly increase Harvey’s opportunities and chances to break free. I expect Harvey to get going later in the season, but for now, it’s fair to be concerned.
Stefon Diggs (WR – NE)
The Patriots signed Stefon Diggs to give their prized young quarterback a No. 1 WR. Yet Drake Maye is thriving without one. Making use of his tight ends, running backs and Kayshon Boutte the most. Diggs corralled all three of his targets for 23 yards on Sunday.
This comes on the heels of six receptions for 57 yards and four receptions for 32 yards in the previous two games, leaving a lot to be desired in Diggs’ first three weeks with the Patriots. Perhaps his production will improve, as the path is clear for Diggs to take over as the top target, but at 31 years old, it’s fair to wonder how much he has left.
Calvin Ridley (WR – TEN)
Another veteran with a clear runway who’s stumbled out of the gate, Calvin Ridley caught just one pass for 27 yards on Sunday, despite seeing seven targets come his way.
Ridley only brought in half of his targets across the first two weeks and now has just 111 yards on the season. Despite Cam Ward improving his output each week, Ridley’s young season is littered with drops thus far.
