Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire & FAAB Targets
Each week, I will highlight a few players to target in your weekly waiver wire FAAB process, but keep in mind there are many others available and, more importantly, other players that may be a better fit for your teams. If you have any questions, please ask me on Twitter (@bdentrek).
Note: We use Yahoo for player percentages and recommend players rostered in no more than 60% of leagues.
Hitters
Jakob Marsee (OF – MIA)
Rostered: 55%
Suggested Bid: 14%
Jakob Marsee joined the Marlins on August 1st, and he’s been raking. He’s hitting .340 with five home runs and 10 steals since joining the Marlins. He entered Friday riding a six-game hitting streak, where he’s hitting .423 with a home run and a steal.
Marsee is locked into the top of the Marlins’ batting order and contributing in all five ROTO categories. He should be rostered in all formats heading into the stretch run.
Giancarlo Stanton (OF – NYY)
Rostered: 53%
Suggested Bid: 14%
Giancarlo Stanton missed a large chunk of the season with injury, but he’s been an offensive force since he joined the Yankees. Since June 16th, Stanton has been hitting .271 with 20 home runs and 49 RBI.
Stanton is barreling the ball 21.5% of the time with a 53.8% hard-hit rate. With Aaron Judge back to playing the outfield, Stanton is locked into every day at-bats as the Yankees’ designated hitter, and that should lead to plenty of fantasy appeal. Roster Stanton wherever you need power.
Jake Burger (1B, 3B – TEX)
Rostered: 34%
Suggested Bid: 12%
Jake Burger has spent multiple trips on the injured list (IL), but is still hitting .248 on the season with 16 home runs and 49 RBI. Since he returned on September 9th from his recent IL stint, Burger has looked like a fantasy winner.
Over his eight games since returning from the IL, Burger is hitting .286 with four home runs and eight RBI. He’s crushing the ball with a 27.3% barrel rate and 54.5% hard-hit rate. Burger is playing daily, not platooning like he was before, making him a strong fantasy target down the stretch.
Pitchers
Cam Schlittler (SP – NYY)
Rostered: 53%
Suggested Bid: 11%
Cam Schlittler is coming off a nice bounce-back start versus the Tigers, where he allowed one run over six innings pitched with seven strikeouts. Over his 11 starts since joining the Yankees, Schittler has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 10 starts for a 3.05 ERA and 3.92 SIERA to go with a 16.5% K-BB rate.
Schittler is scheduled for a two-step this week versus the Twins and Orioles, making him a great start for the final weeks of the season.
Kyle Bradish (SP – BAL)
Rostered: 41%
Suggested Bid: 16%
Kyle Bradish has made three starts since coming off the IL on August 26th. He’s been solid over the three starts with five earned runs over 17 innings pitched for a 2.65 ERA and 2.94 SIERA. He has been dominating the opposition with 21 strikeouts and four walks over those 17 innings for a 26.2% K-BB rate to go with a 12.2% SwStr%.
Bradish is set to face the White Sox and Yankees this week, so stream away.
Jameson Taillon (SP – CHC)
Rostered: 29%
Suggested Bid: 6%
Jameson Taillon returned from the IL this past week and allowed two runs over 4.1 innings pitched versus the Braves with two walks and two strikeouts. Over his 20 starts this season, Taillon has a 4.15 ERA and 4.46 SIERA to go with a 13.4% K-BB rate.
Taillon doesn’t dominate often, but he also doesn’t get destroyed. He’s set to face the Pirates and Reds this week, making for a nice two-step streaming week.
Closers
Shawn Armstrong (RP – TEX)
Rostered: 21%
Suggested Bid: 14%
Shawn Armstrong has been having a strong season for the Rangers, but has been outstanding since taking over the closing role on August 17th. Over his last 10 appearances, he’s allowed two runs over 12 innings pitched for a 1.50 ERA and 3.91 SIERA. He has nine strikeouts and three walks for a 13.6% K-BB rate with a 12.6% SwStr%. If you need saves, Armstrong is firmly in play.
Jordan Leasure (RP – CWS)
Rostered: 14%
Suggested Bid: 14%
Jordan Leasure has had a nice season for the White Sox, but he has been great since August 1st. He has allowed four runs over 18.2 innings pitched for a 1.93 ERA and 2.21 SIERA. He has 27 strikeouts and five walks for an elite 32.4% K-BB rate supported by a 15.9% SwStr%. He also has two wins and five saves. Leasure is a strong closing option widely available in most formats.
