Fantasy Football Burning Questions

Expectations for Rashee Rice?

Rashee Rice is finally eligible to return, coming off a six-game suspension, now over a year removed from undergoing posterolateral corner surgery to repair his knee. Given the typical recovery timeline, Rice is expected to be close to a full go against the Raiders, and is expected to see a “heavy workload” according to ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler.

Before going down in Week 4, Rice was phenomenal last season, leading the Chiefs with a 30.2% target share and 31.8% air yards share, averaging a league-high eight receptions on 9.7 targets for 96 receiving yards and 0.67 touchdowns. His 21.6 PPR points per game during that stretch trailed only Ja’Marr Chase (23.7) for second among all wide receivers in 2024.

As great as Rice was, the offense looked a lot different without Marquise Brown, who currently leads the team with a 20.7% target share, stepping up as Patrick Mahomes‘s No. 1 option, averaging five grabs on 7.3 targets for over 50 yards (50.3). Second-year receiver Xavier Worthy was also still getting acclimated to the NFL, playing on only 55.6% of the Chiefs’ offensive snaps in Weeks 1-3.

Carson Wentz or J.J. McCarthy?

Carson Wentz has stepped up in the absence of J.J. McCarthy, leading the Vikings to a 2-1 record as the starter, ranking inside the top 12 among all qualified signal-callers in total expected points added (18.14, QB12), passing expected points added (20.26, QB12) and expected points added per play (0.15, QB11). Although McCarthy returned to practice, he’s still recovering from a high-ankle sprain that has sidelined him for nearly a month, stating:

“It’s getting there. I wouldn’t say it’s 100%. … We’ve got to be smart and understand there’s a lot of things that go on. I’m just going to do what I’m told and try to get better.”

Wentz is also dealing with a shoulder injury, but looks to have a better chance of suiting up in Week 7 and facing the Eagles in a revenge game.

Justin Jefferson gets the biggest boost with Wentz under center, catching seven or more passes on 11 targets for over 120 yards in back-to-back games before the bye, finishing as a WR1 in both outings.

What to make of the Buccaneers’ Injuries?

The Buccaneers were already dealing with a plethora of injuries entering Sunday, still without Mike Evans and Bucky Irving, and ruling out Chris Godwin days before the game. Although Tampa Bay got the win in Week 6, they lost another critical member of their offense in rookie sensation Emeka Egbuka, who caught two of his four targets for 24 yards before exiting early in the third quarter with a hamstring injury.

The team has already ruled out Irving, Godwin and Egbuka ahead of their primetime matchup against the Lions on Monday night. However, Evans has a chance to return after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury.

Although Evans was outdone by Egbuka in the first three games of the season, he was still the No. 1 option in the offense, leading the team with a 28.3% target share and 40.2% air yards share, despite only averaging 4.7 receptions on nine targets for 46.7 yards. Per StatRankings.com, Evans saw a 24.2% first-read target share in Weeks 1-3, even with Egbuka in the lineup, ranking inside the top 10 among all players this season.
