Fantasy Football Injuries to Know for Week 5

Michael Pittman Jr. (WR – IND)

Michael Pittman Jr. (hamstring) was added to the injury report on Thursday.

Michael Pittman Jr. was a surprise addition to the injury report on Thursday. While the veteran was still able to get in a limited practice, it’s still worth noting, since playing through an ailment could impact his production. I’d still fire up Pittman as a high-end WR2 in a projected shootout versus the Raiders, but we have to monitor this issue.

Chuba Hubbard (RB – CAR)

Chuba Hubbard (calf) missed practice on Thursday.

Chuba Hubbard is highly likely to miss Week 5 in what is a good matchup at home versus the Dolphins. Expect Rico Dowdle to get 15+ touches in this favorable spot, putting him on the RB2 radar. If you have Hubbard, you should start looking for a replacement. Don’t count on him this week.

Dallas Goedert (TE – PHI)

Dallas Goedert (knee) was back at practice on Thursday.

It was encouraging to see Dallas Goedert return to practice on Thursday, giving him a good chance to suit up against the Broncos. It’s crazy that Goedert has been the most dependable asset in the Eagles’ passing game so far, finding the end zone three times in his last two games. But it’s a touchdown-dependent profile, as he’s been held to fewer than 40 yards in each of those matchups.

Deebo Samuel Sr. (WR – WSH)

Deebo Samuel Sr. (heel) returned to practice on Thursday.

It’s a good sign to see Deebo Samuel return to practice on Thursday, but you have to wonder if the heel injury could potentially impact his performance in a tough matchup against the Chargers. I’d temper my expectations on Samuel in this unfavorable spot, even with Jayden Daniels ready to return.

Bucky Irving (RB – TB)

Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder) missed another practice on Thursday.

Bucky Irving continues to miss practice, so you should expect him out of your lineup for Week 5. Look for Rachaad White to carry the load, but don’t sleep on Sean Tucker, who is a talented runner in his own right. If Irving misses multiple games, I’d bet on Tucker eventually overtaking White in this backfield.

Braelon Allen (RB – NYJ)

Braelon Allen (knee) was placed on injured reserve (IR).

Braelon Allen is out for at least four games after being placed on injured reserve (IR) with a knee injury. This locks in Breece Hall as the main back in the red zone, which is good news for his fantasy value. Isaiah Davis is a sneaky pickup if you’re in deeper leagues, but don’t expect him to have the same role Allen had.

J.J. McCarthy (QB – MIN)

J.J. McCarthy (ankle) missed Thursday’s practice.

J.J. McCarthy missed practice on Thursday, so Carson Wentz is in line for another start for the Vikings. Even if McCarthy were healthy, it’s a terrible spot with an injury-plagued offensive line against an elite Browns’ front-seven. If you’re in a deep league, now is the time to put in a cheap bid to get McCarthy. I still have hopes for him down the stretch.

Chris Godwin (WR – TB)

Chris Godwin (ankle) logged a full practice on Thursday.

Chris Godwin was able to get in a full practice on Thursday. He returned last week, so playing isn’t in question; yet, it’s still encouraging to see him able to practice without limitations. That makes me feel a bit more optimistic about his rest-of-season outlook. The Bucs desperately need their players back healthy, as they’ve been riddled with injuries.
