We are on the cusp of the fantasy football playoffs, and whether you’re playing for positioning or just pride, these games still matter a whole lot, and every roster transaction and fantasy football waiver wire move you make is vitally important.
While your leaguemates concentrate on the immediate fixtures, you can gain an edge by looking to next week and seeing which fantasy football players might be worth picking up off the waiver wire ahead of time to gain an advantage. Instead of fighting things out on the waiver wire, these players could join your roster for free, now.

We use rostership data from Yahoo, which provides a large sample size and tends to be fairly reliable. We understand you’ll be dying to say ‘he’s not available in my league’ to every suggestion, even regarding players available in fewer than 10% of leagues. However, by selecting players typically rostered in 50% or fewer of leagues, we should have a good range of players available in many leagues.
We’ve hit a really difficult part of the schedule for waivers and stashes. This column will aim to give you a few streamers for Week 13, but also some valuable stashes going forward.
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Stashes Ahead of Week 13
Week 13 is the first time we have zero bye weeks since Week 4, and after Week 13, we’re down to only four teams on bye in Week 14, and then it’s all 32 teams available every week from then on out. We’re at a point where it’s time to get rid of the dead wood on your roster and make sure you have strong options.
Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAX) | 48% Rostered
In Week 13, Trevor Lawrence takes on the Titans, who rank 26th against the pass in expected points added (EPA) allowed per dropback. Tennessee has allowed over 250 passing yards in each of its last three games and has given up a combined six passing touchdowns during that span, as well as allowing four quarterbacks to hit 25+ rushing yards.
Lawrence has been a top-12 quarterback in two of his last three games and has rushed for 24+ yards in two of his previous three games as well. This offense lacks weapons, but it’s starting to find its groove under this coaching staff. Lawrence is an OK streaming option.
Tua Tagovailoa (QB – MIA) | 17% Rostered
The plucky Dolphins will be coming off their bye and feeling themselves after three wins in their last four games. With the Saints next on tap, there’s no reason they can’t keep those vibes going. Tua Tagovailoa hasn’t had many good fantasy days this year, but the Saints are a clear pass funnel team, grading out as the seventh-best run defense in EPA allowed compared to 30th against the pass.
New Orleans has allowed the 10th-most fantasy points to the quarterback position, and they particularly struggle against plays involving motion, tying for a league-high 16 touchdowns allowed. New Orleans is also allowing the third-highest yards per attempt and a league-high quarterback rating of 122.1 on those plays. With games against the Jets, Steelers and Bengals on tap, Tagovailoa is an interesting option for the next few weeks.
Bhayshul Tuten (RB – JAX) | 43% Rostered
Perhaps this one is too close to the 50% threshold for many leagues, but we’ve got to cover all bases here and make sure Bhayshul Tuten is rostered. Last week, before getting injured and leaving the game, Tuten had 15 carries to Travis Etienne‘s 12, with the team seemingly ready to give the rookie more work.
Etienne, for his part, is playing OK, but Tuten is a violent runner and averaged 4.93 yards per carry on his 15 attempts, as well as finding the end zone. In Week 13, the Jaguars play a Titans team allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to running backs.
Devin Singletary (RB – NYG) | 25% Rostered
In Week 13, the Giants play the Patriots, who haven’t been a fantasy-friendly option for running backs this year, but with Milton Williams (defensive tackle) on injured reserve (IR), they’ll likely be more vulnerable going forward. Since Cam Skattebo‘s season ended, the divide for the Giants’ backfield has been clear.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. gets the majority of passing work and Devin Singletary gets the goal-line opportunities. Last week, Singletary had 16 attempts for 44 yards, which isn’t great, but he did score two touchdowns. Over the last three weeks, Singletary is the RB25, averaging 11.7 points per game. He’s a useful fantasy asset.
Chris Rodriguez Jr. (RB – WSH) | 16% Rostered
The Commanders are on their much-needed bye week before a tough game against the Broncos. It’s too late for them to make a run playoff run, having lost six straight games, but there’s still much to be ironed out in fantasy football.
Chris Rodriguez Jr. has been outplaying Jacory Croskey-Merritt for the past few weeks. In Madrid, Rodriguez turned 15 carries into 79 yards while Croskey-Merritt managed a miserable nine attempts for 28 yards. The matchup with Denver is as tough as they come, but in the fantasy playoffs, the Commanders have a cupcake running back schedule against (Giants, Eagles, Cowboys). That alone makes Rodriguez worth your attention.
Keaton Mitchell (RB – BAL) | 3% Rostered
It’s always dangerous taking shots on the Ravens’ offense outside of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, but in deeper leagues, Keaton Mitchell is emerging as an intriguing option. The Ravens play the Bengals twice over the next few weeks, with no team allowing more running back fantasy points than the Bengals, who rank 31st in rushing EPA allowed per play.
Over the last few weeks, John Harbaugh has talked Mitchell up and said it was important to get him more touches, and that’s started to materialise with 10 carries and three targets in his last two games.
Christian Watson (WR – GB) | 46% Rostered
Jayden Reed has returned to practice for the Packers after suffering a broken collarbone early in the season, but he’s unlikely to play anytime soon, which helps make the case for Christian Watson for a little bit longer.
Since Watson came back four weeks ago, he’s gone over 45 yards in all four games and has been a top-30 receiver in two of those games. Watson has been consistently playing in 2-WR formations. The only player seeing more targets is Romeo Doubs. With Josh Jacobs banged up, the passing game could become a bigger part of this offense.
Kayshon Boutte (WR – NE) | 36% Rostered
The Patriots have coped well with Kayshon Boutte’s absence since Week 9, but that shouldn’t mean we ignore him in Week 13 against the Giants, who have allowed the 11th-most fantasy points to wide receivers and rank 23rd against the pass.
Boutte has gone over 54 yards in his last three healthy games, as well as scoring a touchdown in all three, resulting in top-24 finishes in each. That’s worth chasing.
Luther Burden III (WR – CHI) | 10% Rostered
Rinse. Repeat. Another week of Luther Burden usage trending up, but no breakout just yet. Last week, we saw Burden move ahead of Olamide Zaccheaus, running 61% of routes compared to Zaccheaus’ 19%, leading to an 18% target share.
The Bears seem to be slowly turning over more work to their youth movement, with DJ Moore largely ineffective. While Burden continues to be a projection, the upside is worth stashing.
Adonai Mitchell (WR – IND) | 2% Rostered
Diving deep, we find ourselves a wide receiver coming off six targets in Week 11 in Adonai Mitchell, who made his Jets debut against the Patriots. It would be remiss not to mention Mitchell only caught one of those six targets for a measly 10 yards, but it’s a testament to how empty the Jets’ shelves are right.
With Tyrod Taylor taking over the QB1 duties, it could improve the passing game somewhat. The Jets play Baltimore this week before Atlanta and Miami. Hardly reliable defenses.
Evan Engram (TE – DEN) | 40% Rostered
Regular readers of this column will be aware we’re not Evan Engram fans around here, but if you’re streaming the position and playing the matchups, it would be negligent not to mention Engram having a peach of a matchup in Week 13.
The Commanders allow the eighth-most fantasy points to the tight end position, giving up five tight end touchdowns in their last six games. Engram has been a disappointment all year, with his highest performance resulting in the 12th-best tight end score of Week 5. If you’re desperate, against a weak Commanders defense, this does make some sense.
Mike Gesicki (TE – CIN) | 2% Rostered
For those saying ‘not in my league,’ how about Mike Gesicki, who is only 2% rostered. Gesicki has been on IR and hasn’t played since Week 6, but is expected to return soon (perhaps even this week), along with Joe Burrow. The Bengals are essentially dead and buried unless they beat Baltimore and run the table, but they’ll have that opportunity with Baltimore in Week 13.
The Ravens haven’t allowed a tight end touchdown since Week 6, but these Ravens and Bengals games have a habit of getting crazy. Joe Burrow talked in the offseason about how important it was to re-sign Gesicki, so there’s a little bit of hope he could be relevant down the stretch.
