Fantasy Football Burning Questions
Time to Bench Lamar Jackson?
Lamar Jackson was a consensus top-two quarterback entering the season, one year removed from finishing as the QB1 overall, but it’s time to start questioning if he’s even worth starting. Over his last three games, Jackson has finished no better than the fantasy QB25, averaging fewer than 200 passing yards (197.3) and only 16 rushing yards since Week 11.
To make matters worse, Jackson missed Thursday’s practice with an ankle injury. While he’s off the injury report, it’s hard to feel great about Jackson against a Steelers defense that has given him trouble in the past.
Can We Trust Jayden Daniels?
At 3-9, the Commanders are all but eliminated from the playoffs, but they haven’t given up yet, bringing back Jayden Daniels to close out the season. Daniels has missed significant time with a multitude of injuries, most recently dislocating his elbow on his non-throwing arm; however, even when he has been available, the reigning Rookie of the Year hasn’t been nearly as effective.
Daniels has finished as QB1 just once in six games, averaging fewer than 200 yards (197.3) and 0.3 touchdowns as a passer. Fortunately, Daniels has been active with his legs, averaging 43.7 yards on the ground, but that could get scaled back given his injury history.
What to Make of the Chargers?
Justin Herbert was a limited participant in practice after undergoing surgery for a fracture on his non-throwing hand earlier this week, officially listed as questionable for a Monday night showdown against the Eagles. Although head coach Jim Harbaugh is “optimistic” about Herbert’s status, we may not get an answer until after the weekend, leaving fantasy managers with a difficult decision come Sunday. If Herbert is out, Trey Lance would draw the start, making it hard to trust any Chargers pass-catchers.
Fortunately, the team will get first-round rookie (No. 22 overall) Omarion Hampton back this week after missing the last seven games with a fractured ankle. Hampton was a true bell-cow back before going down, but there’s no telling what his role will be in his first game, especially after the most recent performance by second-year back Kimani Vidal.
