Fantasy Baseball Saves Plus Holds Rankings & Advice (2026)

Each week during the fantasy baseball season, I take a look at the relief pitcher landscape to aid with waiver wire and trade decisions. This past week saw a few more injuries and some relievers step up.

Fantasy Baseball Saves + Holds League Advice

Saves + Holds Leaders

There are eight relievers with eight or more saves plus holds (SV+H):

Player Team SV+H
Erik Sabrowski CLE 11
Mason Miller SDP 10
David Bednar NYY 9
Tony Santillan CIN 9
Juan Morillo ARI 8
Lucas Erceg KCR 8
Graham Ashcraft CIN 8
Riley O’Brien STL 8

Takeaways

  • Mason Miller, Tony Santillan and Riley O’Brien hadn’t allowed an earned run at this point last week. They’ve all given up at least two runs since then — Miller and O’Brien with two apiece, and Snatillan allowing three.
  • Erik Sabrowski has led the league all season long. His 14.1 K/9 ranks 11th among all pitchers with 10 innings pitched.
  • Lucas Erceg never ran away with the closer’s role with Carlos Estevez on the injured list (IL). In his last five outings, he’s picked up two wins and two saves, but allowed seven walks. Estevez is getting closer to returning and may steal opportunities, even if he doesn’t step back into the role.

Biggest Risers

Bryan Baker (RP – TBR) | +5

Bryan Baker has been excellent this season. In 11.1 innings, he has a 3.18 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, seven saves and a 10.3 K/9. His xERA is a career-best 2.21, and his hard-hit rate allowed is in the 97th percentile. Baker has been the only consistent pitcher in the Rays’ bullpen.

Louis Varland (RP – TOR)| Undrafted

Louis Varland ranks in the top 10 of relievers with seven saves plus holds. His 14.6 K/9 is the best of his career by far, and his strikeout rate (43.3%) is in the 100th percentile. He’s picked up each of the last three saves for the Blue Jays.

Biggest Fallers

Matt Strahm (RP – KCR) | -11

Matt Strahm has a 4.22 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 10.1 K/9 with seven holds in 10.2 innings. He has a 2.53 xERA, but a 5.00 FIP and a 4.58 xFIP. The veteran reliever has been unlucky, allowing a .238 batting average, but his xBA is .179 and in the 94th percentile.

Jeff Hoffman (RP – TOR) | -10

Jeff Hoffman has been replaced in the closer’s role for the Blue Jays, but he still has some value. Despite a 6.39 ERA and 1.82 WHIP, he has a league-best 19.1 K/9. His xERA of 2.96 is shocking, considering how bad the surface-level stats are. We probably haven’t seen the last save opportunity for Hoffman just yet.
