Smash Spots
Cristopher Sanchez (SP – PHI) vs. SFG
Cristopher Sanchez is a completely different pitcher at home. Coming off a rough outing at Wrigley, bet on a huge bounce-back from Sanchez against the Giants.
Cam Schlittler (SP – NYY) at TEX
Cam Schlittler continues to establish himself as one of the best young pitchers in MLB. He’ll get a nice matchup in a pitcher-friendly environment against the Rangers.
Zack Wheeler (SP – PHI) at MIA
Zack Wheeler‘s velocity has been down in his minor league rehab assignments, but this is a crafty veteran who knows how to pitch. I think he’ll mix his arsenal up enough to shut down Marlins hitters in a pitcher’s park.
Risky Starts
Sandy Alcantara (SP – MIA) at LAD
Sandy Alcantara has hit a rough patch lately, which is the last thing you want to see when he’s slated to take on the best team in baseball in a road start.
Kyle Bradish (SP – BAL) at NYY
Kyle Bradish has been one of the most disappointing pitchers in baseball so far. While part of that is due to bad luck on balls in play, this is a tough matchup at Yankee Stadium.
Trey Yesavage (SP – TOR) at MIN
Trey Yesavage has a good chance to make his season debut against the Twins. I’m tempering expectations since it’s his first start back. This is a boom-or-bust play.
Two-Start Pitchers
Chase Burns (SP – CIN) vs. COL, at PIT
Chase Burns should be able to dominate in two exploitable matchups during this two-start week. You have to be excited about a home start vs. the Rockies.
Jesus Luzardo (SP – PHI) vs. SFG, at MIA
Jesus Luzardo has been disappointing so far, but he’s got a great opportunity to get back on track with this intriguing two-step against the Giants and the Dolphins.
Kris Bubic (SP – KCR) at SEA, at ATH
Kris Bubic will have a chance to rack up Ks in two matchups vs. strikeout-prone teams like the Mariners and the A’s. The one issue here is one of those games is at Sutter Health Park, one of the most hitter-friendly environments in MLB.
