Smash Spots
Shohei Ohtani (SP – LAD) vs. COL
Shohei Ohtani is off to a spectacular start, establishing himself as a legitimate National League Cy Young candidate. We could see him pitch seven innings with 10 strikeouts versus the Rockies.
Emmet Sheehan (SP – LAD) vs. COL
Emmet Sheehan has found a groove, so expect that to continue in a smash spot at home against the Rockies. There’s upside for eight or more strikeouts in this matchup.
Parker Messick (SP – CLE) vs. BOS
Parker Messick should be able to keep it rolling with a quality outing at home against an underwhelming Red Sox offense. I can see him going six or more innings with at least seven strikeouts.
Risky Starts
Gerrit Cole (SP – NYY) @ ATH
Gerrit Cole looked rock-solid in his return to action, but the strikeouts weren’t there. We could see a tough start on the road against the Athletics in a hitter-friendly environment.
Logan Webb (SP – SFG) vs. ARI
Logan Webb is expected to return to the Giants this week. It’s a decent matchup at home against the Diamondbacks, but we have to temper our expectations a bit since he’s coming back from injury.
Davis Martin (SP – CWS) vs. MIN
Davis Martin started to show some cracks in the armor in his last outing versus the Giants. Could regression be coming? That adds some risk in his start versus the Twins.
Two-Start Pitchers
Kyle Bradish (SP – BAL) vs. TBR, vs. DET
Kyle Bradish has found a rhythm lately, finally starting to show the upside we all saw hoped for coming into the season. Fire him up with confidence in this two-start week.
Shane McClanahan (SP – TBR) @ BAL, vs. LAA
Shane McClanahan is exceeding the most optimistic expectations in his return from injury. Bet on him to keep it rolling in two nice matchups versus the Orioles and Angels.
Ben Brown (SP – CHC) @ PIT, @ STL
Ben Brown is showing some upside as a starter, so we have to ride with him in two exploitable spots against the Pirates and the Cardinals.
