Friday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (7/3)

Shohei Ohtani (SP – LAD) vs. San Diego Padres

Shohei Ohtani is spinning it this year. According to FanGraphs, among 110 pitchers with at least 70 innings pitched this year, Ohtani is second in ERA (1.58), second in xERA (2.67), 18th in xFIP (3.33), 17th in SIERA (3.38) and fourth in WHIP (0.90). The two-way stud also has a fantasy-friendly 27.5% strikeout rate, eight wins and 11 quality starts in 13 starts spanning 79.2 innings.

Ohtani has a plus matchup and betting info tonight. The Padres are 26th in wRC+ (90) with a 22.9% strikeout rate against righties and 23rd in wRC+ (91) with a 23.5% strikeout rate on the road in 2026. The Dodgers are -245 favorites, and the game’s total is eight runs.

Luis Castillo (SP – SEA) vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Luis Castillo looked like he might be cooked earlier in the year, but he’s settled into good form lately. In his last six appearances (four starts) spanning 30.1 innings, Castillo has recorded the following numbers:

    • 2 wins
    • 1 quality start
    • 2.67 ERA
    • 2.98 xERA
    • 4.22 xFIP
    • 4.09 SIERA
    • 1.05 WHIP
    • 6.3% walk rate
    • 20.6% strikeout rate
    • 11.7% SwStr%
    • 26% CSW%
    • 96 stuff+
    • 112 location+
    • 103 pitching+

Castillo can stay hot in a favorable matchup. The Blue Jays are 18th in wRC+ (100) with a 19.6% strikeout rate versus righties and 24th in wRC+ (88) with an 18.8% strikeout rate on the road this year. Toronto is also tied for 11th in wRC+ (102) with a 19% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days. The Mariners are slight underdogs (+110), but the game’s total is a pitcher-friendly seven runs.

Logan Webb (SP – SFG) at Colorado Rockies

There’s always a risk to using a pitcher at Coors Field, but Logan Webb might be worth rolling the dice on in GPPs in Colorado. San Francisco’s ace is on a white-hot heater, pitching at least seven innings in five straight starts, allowing two earned runs in one of those turns, one in another and zero in the other three. Webb has also struck out at least five batters in four straight starts.

The Rockies are a tasty matchup for Webb. Colorado is 23rd in wRC+ (96) with a 21.8% strikeout rate versus righties and tied for 28th in wRC+ (84) with a 22.3% strikeout rate at home this season. The Rockies are also dead last in wRC+ (61) with a 28.2% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days. Finally, the Giants are -155 favorites, albeit with a terrifying game total of 11 runs.

    Suggested Lineup Stacks

Ryan Feltner is listed as Colorado’s starting pitcher, but RosterResource projects Tomoyuki Sugano to get the ball tonight. Both pitchers are right-handed punching bags and a favorable matchup for the Giants.

San Francisco’s projected starting lineup features only one player with a sub-100 wRC+ against righties since 2024 and six with at least a 117 wRC+. They should take advantage of the hitter-friendly confines at Coors Field in a tantalizing matchup.

The Dodgers hung a dozen runs on the board last night. Los Angeles has another opportunity to hang an eye-popping number on the scoreboard tonight.

In Michael King‘s last seven starts, he’s been battered to the tune of a 5.45 ERA, 6.49 xERA, 5.21 xFIP and 5.19 SIERA. King allowed at least three runs in six of those starts and at least four runs in four of them.
