Masahiro Tanaka allowed eight runs (seven earned) on six hits in 5 2/3 innings on Friday against the Blue Jays. Tanaka walked three and struck out six, but also allowed three home runs to bring his season total to 35. He has a 4.94 ERA this seasosn and will face the Rays in New York on September 27.
Fantasy Impact:
Tanaka has now allowed seven runs in two of his last three starts and has a 6.46 ERA in 23 2/3 innings this month. Even with this poor start, Tanaka is 5-4 with a 4.15 ERA in the second half, striking out 76 and walking just 14 in 69 1/3 innings. Tanaka struggled in his first two starts at Tropicana Field against Tampa Bay (allowing 13 runs in 5 2/3 innings), but did allow one run in eight innings against Tampa Bay on July 28 at Yankees Stadium, striking out 14 without a walk.
