Phillies sign Slowey to minor league contract

by Kerry Kauffman | Tue, Dec 23rd 4:27pm EST

The Phillies signed veteran pitcher Kevin Slowey to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training. Slowey, who has a career ERA of 4.62, has allowed only 1.5 walks per nine innings. On the downside, he's allowed 10.4 hits per nine innings. With the Phillies lacking in starting pitching depth, Slowey could make a push at a spot in the rotation. (CSNPhilly.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Slowey won 12 games with the Twins in 2008 and 13 in 2010, but he's only won 18 games over parts of five other Major League seasons. Although inconsistent, if Slowey makes the Phillies roster as a starter, he would be a solid extra pitcher to draft in the late round of deep leagues or as a post draft pickup.
