Frankie Montas' MRI showed inflammation but no structural damage in his pitching shoulder. He received a cortisone shot and is expected to miss his next start. (Martin Gallegos on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
The 29-year-old is listed as day-to-day, but the A's have not ruled out an IL stint. In 96 2/3 innings, he has tallied a 3.26 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 100 strikeouts. For fantasy managers, it is encouraging that there is no structural damage, and Montas can presumably pitch again sooner rather than later. The other concern, however, is what this might do to his trade value, given that a trade to a contender seemed assured, which could boost his win totals. The best fantasy advice remains to hold him as this is the lowest his trade value has been all year.
