The move is merely a formality as Williams underwent an internal brace procedure on his right elbow in July and will miss at least the first two months of the 2026 season. The veteran struggled to a 6.21 ERA in 17 starts prior to the procedure and owns a 4.46 ERA across 219 career outings, 178 of which have been starts.
