Lopez (elbow) had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in 2013. He underwent UCL repair surgery with an internal brace on Wednesday, avoiding a full reconstructive procedure. (Bobby Nightengale)
Fantasy Impact:
The 2026 season is lost for Lopez. He is scheduled to consult with his surgeon in five to six months, at which point a follow-up MRI will determine if he has healed sufficiently to start a throwing program. Head trainer Nick Paparesta said the surgery was successful. Minnesota is optimistic the internal brace approach will accelerate Lopez's recovery timeline and position him for the start of the 2027 season.
