Romy Gonzalez (shoulder) placed on 60-day IL after shoulder surgery

Utility infielder Romy Gonzalez (shoulder) underwent surgery on his left shoulder on Thursday and has been placed on the 60-day injured list. The move allows newly-acquired Danny Coulombe a spot on the 40-man roster. (Boston Globe on X)
Fantasy Impact:
Gonzalez will miss at least the first two months of the season so the Red Sox will be without a key piece of their infield plans for a bit. After a slow start to his major league career with the White Sox, Gonzalez has performed quite well in a Boston uniform. Last season, he hit .305 with nine home runs in 341 plate appearances and has combined to hit .290 with 15 home runs and 17 stolen bases in 185 games with the Red Sox. It appears that Boston will now get a good look at Marcelo Mayer at second base to open the season with Trevor Story and Caleb Durbin occupying the left side of the infield. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is also in the mix.
