With Pavin Smith (elbow) landing on the IL, Fernandez will be called up to the bigs for the first time. Fernandez is coming off an excellent spring that saw him post a .280/.308/.840 slash line with seven extra-base hits across 26 plate appearances. The 22-year-old Venezuelan, currently ranked as the No. 27 prospect (MLB.com) in the Diamondbacks' system, can play across the infield.
