Bubba Chandler settles for no-decision in season debut Tuesday

by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Tue, Mar 31st 10:16pm EDT

Bubba Chandler allowed one unearned run in 4.1 innings and had to settle for a no-decision in the Pirates' 8-3 win over the Reds on Tuesday. The young righthander did not allow a hit, but walked six and struck out six.

Fantasy Impact:

Chandler left with a 6-1 lead, but finished two outs shy of qualifying for the victory as he uncharacteristically walked six and needed 81 pitches to get through 4.1 innings. Chandler walked just four batters in 31.1 innings with the Pirates last season, but he struggled with his command this spring (11 walks in 11 innings) and that carried over into Tuesday's start. Chandler projects to be an important part of the Pittsburgh rotation in 2026, but he's going to need to figure out the control issues. The young righthander is tentatively scheduled to make his next start against the Padres next week.
