Braxton Ashcraft fans career-high eight in Sunday victory

by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Sun, Apr 5th 9:33pm EDT

Braxton Ashcraft went six innings on Sunday and allowed just a run on four hits to earn his first victory of the season as the Pirates defeated the Orioles, 8-2. The righthander did not walk a batter and struck out eight.

Fantasy Impact:

Ashcraft (1-1) evened his record through two starts with his win on Sunday. The eight strikeouts established a new career-high for the righthander as he punched out at least one batter in all six of his innings, including all three batters in the second. His only blemish came in the fourth when he allowed a pair of doubles to Taylor Ward and Pete Alonso. Ashcraft has a 2.25 ERA through 12 innings, allowing eight hits and four walks while striking out 11. He seems to have a firm grip on a rotation spot and he is lined up to face the Cubs in Chicago his next time out.
