Brandon Lowe reaches base five times in rout of Reds
by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Sun, May 3rd 6:58am EDT
Brandon Lowe singled in his only official at bat, but walked four times, scored three runs, and drove in another as the Pirates defeated the Reds, 17-7, on Saturday.
Fantasy Impact:
Lowe's only hit came in the bottom of the first when he plated Oneil Cruz for the Pirates' first run of the game. He later came in to score on a double by Ryan O'Hearn. Then, in the second, Lowe started a ridiculous string of seven consecutive walks by Reds' pitchers as Pittsburgh built up a 10-3 lead after two innings. He walked in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings as well before being replaced by Jared Triolo, who was reinstated from the IL earlier in the day, in the seventh. Lowe is having a solid first season in Pittsburgh, batting .250 with eight home runs and 21 runs batted in through 29 games. However, it will be interesting to see how manager Don Kelly shuffles the lineup now that Triolo is back after missing about a month.
