Chicago Bulls

Eastern Central

The Chicago Bulls announced that Lonzo Ball will undergo an "arthroscopic debridement" of his left knee on Wednesday, Sept. 28, and will be re-evaluated in 4-to-6 weeks. (Source: Chicago Bulls on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: It looks like the knee injury that forced Ball to miss almost the entirety of the 2021-22 season is still lingering, as he will undergo another procedure. With Chicago's first game being played on Oct. 19, it looks like it may be a long shot for the point guard to be available to open the season. In terms of his fantasy value, this puts an even bigger question mark next to his name going into drafting season, and it may be the safe bet to stay away from him until more information is known.

Goran Dragic signed a one-year, $2.9 million contract with the Chicago Bulls. (Source: NBC Sports)

Fantasy Impact: Dragic played only 16 games for the Nets last year during the regular season but improved his play during Brooklyn's playoff series against Boston. Dragic is a depth piece for Chicago as their backcourt is relatively deep. However, an opportunity may present itself if/when injuries come.

According to Bulls reporter KC Johnson, Bulls guard, and impending free agent, Zach LaVine underwent successful surgery on his knee. (Source: KC Johnson)

Fantasy Impact: On Tuesday impending free agent and Bulls guard Zach LaVine underwent successful surgery on his knee. According to reports, there is no official timetable for a return to the court but it's unlikely to keep him out to start the 2022 NBA regular season. During the 2021-2022 season, the veteran guard struggled with the same knee injury and can even be traced back to 2017 when he received multiple platelet-rich plasma therapy treatments. With LaVine heading into free agency this offseason, teams will be wary of his knee but he did manage to suit up the final 20 of 23 games but was clearly hampered.

Alex Caruso is out for Game 5 against the Milwaukee Bucks due to protocol, Shams Charania reports. (Source: Shams Charania)

Fantasy Impact: Caruso has been downgraded from questionable to out for Wednesday's Game 5. This is a huge blow to the Bulls who will also be without Zach Lavine (protocols) down 3-1 in the series. Look for Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White to have increased workloads in Caruso's absence.

DeMar DeRozan recorded 17 points (7-13 FG, 0-1 3PT, 3-4 FT), one rebound, one assist, and five turnovers in 30 minutes in Friday's loss to the Hornets.

Fantasy Impact: DeRozan was well below his seasonal averages in points, rebounding, and assists in a disappointing loss to the Hornets. If the Bulls want to snap their current four-game losing streak, DeRozan will need to ramp up his production. The 32-year-old will look to do so when the Bulls visit the Timberwolves on Sunday.

Coby White recorded 19 points (6-14 FG, 6-9 3PT, 1-2 FT), one rebound, four assists, and one steal in 36 minutes in Friday's loss to the Hornets.

Fantasy Impact: With Lonzo Ball out for the season and Alex Caruso inactive, White saw a nice 36 minutes in the start. The UNC product is a high-volume three point shooter but needs to find more consistency from deep. The 22-year-old will look to stay productive when the Bulls visit the Timberwolves on Sunday.

Nikola Vucevic posted 13 points (5-13 FG, 1-3 3PT, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block against the Celtics.

Fantasy Impact: Vooch and the rest of the Bulls, for that matter, could not get anything going in this one. They simply looked outclassed from the tip and there was nothing they could do. The big man and the rest of the Bulls will look to right the ship.

Patrick Williams finished with 18 points (7-9 FG, 2-4 3PT, 2-2) and six rebounds in the loss to the Bucks.

Fantasy Impact: P-Will has been great for Chicago since returning from injury. It has been rather impressive considering how much he missed with the wrist injury. He will be a key player if the Bulls want to make any noise in the playoffs.

Javonte Green totaled five points (2-3 FG, 1-2 3PT), six rebounds, two assists, and one block in the Bulls’ 126-109 loss to the Pelicans on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact: Green scored five points in the Bulls' loss, the Pelicans putting up a performance that left a lot to be desired. Even in his spot start, he still produced a conservative stat-line that didn't do much to move the needle of the production of your fantasy squad. Green could be a solid single-game contest fantasy asset; however, consideration beyond that could result in less than desirable outcomes.

Ayo Dosunmu finished with 15 points (6-11 FG, 2-3 3PT, 1-1 FT), three rebounds, six assists, and a steal in the loss.

Fantasy Impact: Dosunmu continues to be a great addition to the starting lineup for Chicago. He played a great game and shot the ball efficiently. Even with Caruso back in the lineup, Dosunmu still has some fantasy appeal.

Chicago Bulls F Derrick Jones Jr. logged 22 minutes on Monday and contributed four points, seven rebounds, and an assist during a 120-109 win over the Spurs.

Fantasy Impact: During his first two games since returning from a multi-month injury, Jones Jr has been a bit shaky. He's logged 22.5 minutes on average but has failed to score over 10 fantasy points in either of the matchups. With Zach LaVine's return on the horizon, Jones may slot back into a 15-17 minute bench role when the veteran returns.

Matt Thomas finished Friday night's tilt with 10 points (3-9 FG, 2-8 3PT, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, and one assist in 27 minutes of action in the Bulls' 122-115 win over the Pacers.

Fantasy Impact: Thomas saw a decent amount of court time as the Bulls were shorthanded once again Friday night. The Bulls deep threat guard is currently not a viable option in DFS or season long leagues but his usage was the third best on the Bulls with a rate of 15.4%.
