Jimmy Garoppolo signs 5-year contract with 49ers

by Clinton Ho | 49ers Correspondent | Thu, Feb 8th 1:40pm EST

Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers have agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million contract. This is the biggest deal in NFL history on an average-per-year basis. (Mike Garafolo on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Garoppolo got his prove-it moment in the final five games of the 2017 regular season and the end result is a hefty pay day for the 26-year-old. The team is clearly all-in on him and it won't be a surprise if they bring in additional playmakers this offseason to further bolster an offense that is on the rise.

Expert Analysis

This is a big deal for the 49er's franchise. I expect this team to quickly be competitive in the next year or two. Which is exactly what you want to be watching for in fantasy. Garoppolo proved fantasy-friendly in the few games he started on the 49ers last year. 49er's pass-catchers such as Pierre Garcon, George Kittle, and Marquise Goodwin should receive a bump in 2018. Garcon came off IR at the end of the season and will finally have solid quarterback play. Expect more fantasy relevance.
