Jaccob Slavin scored an early first-period goal at 1:01 helping Carolina to a 3-2 win versus the New York Rangers in Game 1 of the qualifying round best-of-five game series. He also added an assist in 24:40 minutes of ice time.

Fantasy Impact: Slavin isn't much of a goal scorer with only six this season in 68 games but scored a key one to help the Hurricanes get big Game 1 victory. It was his first playoff goal in 13 post season games played.

Sebastian Aho scored a first-period power-play goal and added an assist helping Carolina to a 2-1 win in Game 1 of the qualifying round in Toronto.

Hurricanes GM Don Waddell commented on Hamilton's health in April, stating, "... he'll be ready to play when we drop the puck." Considering it has been three months since then, Hamilton should be at 100% when the NHL's qualifying round begins August 1st. (Source: Tom Gulitti NHL.com)

Fantasy Impact: Hamilton was arguably the top fantasy defenseman this season before fracturing his left fibula. If he can return at full capacity, and the Hurricanes make it out of the qualifying round, he will be extremely valuable to own in your playoff pools. He is currently ranked behind Kris Letang and Roman Josi in NHL.com's Top 115 playoff rankings, so you may even be getting him at a value in drafts.

According to Pierre LeBrun the Carolina Hurricanes have spoken to teams about the possibility of moving Faulk. (Source: Pierre LeBrun on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: This is not the first time Faulk's name has been in trade rumors. The Hurricanes were reportedly entertaining offers for the right-handed defenceman before, but rumors certainly intensified after yesterdays Jake Gardiner signing. Justin Faulk provides high level offensive production from the back-end, he has topped 10 goals in 4 of the last 5 seasons. The Hurricanes have good defensive depth, so it is possible that they would be willing to trade a defenseman to add to their forward group. Justin Faulk is a UFA after this season, so Carolina may decide to move on if an extension is not agreed on.

Brock McGinn has signed a two-year, $4.2 million extension with the Carolina Hurricanes, avoiding arbitration. (Source: Elliotte Friedman on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: McGinn finished the 2018-19 season with 10 goals, and 26 points, while appearing in all 82 games. That was a slight decrease from the 2017-18 season where he managed 16 goals, and 30 points in 80 contests. McGinn is a valuable role-player for the Hurricanes, he offers some secondary scoring, as well as providing something of a physical element for his team. However, as far as fantasy goes, McGinn can be safely avoided.

Calvin de Haan netted his first career playoff goal with 6:12 remaining in the second period of Game Three to cut the deficit to 2-1. Unfortunately for Carolina, Boston would hang on to win 2-1 and claim a 3-0 series lead.

Fantasy Impact: It has been a quiet post-season for de Haan as he as only scored one goal in 11 games played so far. One bright spot is the fact that during this span he also possesses a plus-four rating. His defense will need to be spotless if Carolina is to live another day beyond this Thursday night.

Fantasy Impact: Foegele only had 15 points through 77 games played in the regular season, but this post-season he has turned it on for his squad. In just six games played, he is averaging a point per game and maintaining a plus-six rating as well. Carolina is impressed with the youngster's production in the playoffs and they are hoping he can help them get passed the Capitals in the first round.

Nino Neiderreiter scored 2, second period goals, in a 5-2 win against the Canucks. The win concluded the Hurricanes western Canada road swing. In search of a wild card spot, the Canes collected 5 out of a possible 6 points on the trip.

Fantasy Impact: Since being acquired via a trade with Minnesota on January 17th, Neiderreiter has been impressive. Wednesday night was his second 2 goal game, in only his fourth as a Cane. On the season “El Nino” has 27 points with 13 goals and 14 assists. Keep an eye on him to see if his hot play continues after the All-Star break.

Darling also allowed two shootout goals in the 6-5 loss on Friday, saving 24 of 29 shots.

Fantasy Impact: With a dreary 2-4-0-2 record, 3.33 GAA and .884 save pct, Darling should not be played in fantasy and I would not be surprised if the Canes try very hard to avoid playing him in real life.

Pesce helped Andrei Svechnikov in the first period and Sebastian Aho in the third period of a crazy game that ended in a 6-4 defeat by Montreal.

Fantasy Impact: Although he looks healthy (with three points in the four games since his return from injury), Pesce only has six points overall in 21 games and should not be played in fantasy.
