FanDuel Market Watch: Week 2

Let’s take a look at notable salary changes as we head into Week 2 of the NFL season.

Quarterbacks

DeShone Kizer (CLE): $6,800 @ BAL (+$800)
Kizer was a mixed bag of results in his rookie debut, but in the end he still produced a strong fantasy line, especially relative to some other signal callers. His salary rose heading into a Week 2 matchup against the Ravens, which makes him a bit less appealing. Baltimore intercepted Andy Dalton four times in Week 1, and now Kizer will be forced to make his first road start against a tough opponent. The matchup coupled with a healthy price jump creates a reason for pause in utilizing the rookie quarterback in Week 2.

Matt Ryan (ATL): $8,200 vs. GB (-$300)
Ryan is coming off of an efficient debut against a surprisingly pesky Bears’ team, yet his price dropped heading into a Week 2 primetime showdown against the Packers. The total on this contest opened at 54 points, so I expect plenty of fantasy goodness. I am not sure why Ryan’s price dropped after throwing for 321 yards on 21 completions (30 attempts), but I would guess it’s the fact that he threw just one touchdown. Take advantage of the slip in price in your Week 2 lineups.

Running Backs

Kareem Hunt (KC): $7,800 vs. PHI (+$1,400)
Hunt burst onto the scene with a 43.1 FDP outing in Week 1, which expectedly resulted in a big spike in his salary heading into Week 2. While there’s no denying Hunt’s talent, be cautious in going overboard with him right now, as the masses will certainly chase points after decimating the New England defense. His price is still usable here, I’m just advocating caution as his ownership levels figure to be sky high this week.

Joe Mixon (CIN): $5,400 vs. HOU (-$1,000)
I was a big advocate of taking a wait and see approach with Mixon to begin his rookie season, as he is part of a crowded backfield. That being said, this is a big enough discount that I’m willing to roll the dice if you’re entering multiple lineups in contests that include the Thursday night game. The Texans present a less than desirable matchup on paper, but they did just get gouged by the Jaguars on the ground to the tune of 155 rushing yards. Mixon is a high-risk, high-reward play with plenty of profit potential.

Wide Receivers

Kenny Golladay (DET): $5,700 @ NYG (+$600)
Golladay was on the field for 44 snaps and turned in a strong debut outing, as he logged 69 receiving yards on four catches, while scoring twice. He certainly showed his athleticism in Week 1 against the Cardinals, so I would have expected a bigger price increase heading into Week 2. A matchup against the Giants will prove to be a stern test, but he produced against a tough Arizona defense in Week 1, so don’t be afraid to target the rookie this week.

T.Y. Hilton (IND): $7,200 vs. ARI (-$800)
Hilton and the Colts were embarrassed on the road against the 49ers… I mean the Rams (sorry I had to, click here for more), and they won’t find things any easier against the Cardinals in Week 2. Jacoby Brissett could boost Hilton’s stock a bit over Scott Tolzien at the helm, but I don’t know that the risk is worth the reward, even after a healthy price cut.

Tight Ends

Austin Hooper (ATL): $5,500 vs. GB (+$800)
Hooper was targeted just twice in Week 1, but he made the most out of those looks, as he recorded 128 yards and a touchdown against the Bears. The lack of volume is a bit of a concern, but there are plenty of weapons in this offense, which shoves him down the totem pole a bit. I’d be careful in Week 2, as owners will certainly drive up his ownership after seeing the big Week 1 performance.

Jordan Reed (WAS): $6,400 @ LAR (-$700)
I’m guessing that Reed’s price dropped due to the information that came down earlier in the day on Sunday, which noted that Reed could potentially be playing with a fractured toe. Much has been documented about Reed and his unfortunate injury history, so there’s certainly plenty of risk here. He’s got plenty of talent when on the field, so if you want to try and grab him at a discount in Week 2 there’s upside to be had. Just beware of a Rams’ defense that looms against the Redskins this week.
