Q. Who is your top lottery ticket (late-round pick w/ big upside)?

Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR – DET)
Somebody has to catch the ball for the Detroit Lions. Yes there is T.J. Hockenson and D’Andre Swift but with Breshad Perriman being cut, St. Brown has a tremendous opportunity to make an impact as a rookie. The hot first-year receiver names might be Ja’Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith, and Jaylen Waddle, but they are all more pricey and none of them will have the potential for volume like St. Brown. The other competition for WR in Detroit is Tyrell Williams and Quintez Cephus. Enough said.

With the departure of Breshad Perriman on Monday, the Lions are left with brigade of unproven WRs. That said, rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of the most ideal late round targets. With just Tyrell Williams, Quintez Cephus, and Kalif Raymond as the only other active wideouts on the roster, you can lean on St. Brown to see snaps and targets. With over 313 vacated targets the Lions could be throwing often. Given ADP, St. Brown is a home run late in drafts.

Mecole Hardman (WR – KC)
There was some speculation that Hardman might not be able to seize the starting job opposite Tyreek Hill, but he is listed as a starter heading into the 2021 season. Hardman has reportedly improved as a player with a deeper route tree, better hands, and a stronger work ethic. I think any wide receiver that plays with Patrick Mahomes II has a chance to be a fantasy star and Hardman seems to be primed to make the leap. His ADP is manageable and he seems like an excellent value who could end up having a fantastic season.

Rhamondre Stevenson (RB – NE)
Stevenson has been very impressive this preseason. So much so, that the Patriots felt comfortable shipping Sony Michel off to the Rams. While he’ll start the season as the backup to Damien Harris, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he usurps him by the end of the year, even if Harris stays healthy. Harris had a nice rookie season, but he was invisible in the passing game. Conversely, James White is one the best pass-catching RBs out there, but isn’t much of a threat running the ball. Hence, it’s pretty obvious what the Patriots have planned when either of these guys is in the game. Enter Stevenson, who is more of a dual-threat RB than either of the other two. It’s very conceivable that OC Josh McDaniels will begin working him into the mix based on his flexibility – especially if he continues to impress once the season begins.

Rondale Moore (WR – ARI)
AJ Green‘s career seems to be on its last legs. Christian Kirk is who he is, which is a below average wide receiver. The Cardinals spent significant draft capital on acquiring Moore’s services and we’ve seen Kliff Kingsbury put his skill set to use right away in the preseason. With Larry Fitzgerald‘s retirement, the slot receiver role in Arizona is completely up for grabs. Green has been primarily an outside receiver his whole career and Kirk was used on the outside last year as well. Moore could easily wind up being the second most targeted Cardinals receiver this season. Arizona lacks any competent tight end, which means the former Boilermaker has a chance to feast on those short and intermediate routes with little competition. Kingsbury also appears to have designed several plays specific for getting the ball into Moore’s hands quickly. Without Kenyan Drake and with James Conner‘s injury history, this team might end up passing more than what we expect in 2021. Moore could be a lottery ticket that turns into gold real fast.

Jonnu Smith (TE – NE)
It honestly confuses me why fantasy managers are so hesitant to draft Smith in 2021. While yes, the Patriots did bring in quite a few pass catchers this offseason, we know Smith is going to be heavily used in this offense. Heavy use of 12 personnel is going to keep Smith on the field early and often, and with the recent news of Mac Jones earning the starting role, we could see Smith become one of Jones’ favorite targets. At 6’3″ and 248 pounds, Smith is a huge, physical target that also has impressive athleticism, something rookie QBs have favored towards in the past. Furthermore, Patriots coaches have raved about how diverse Smith was with Tennesee, appearing as not only as a TE, but also a WR and RB in certain formations. It’s likely they try to do something similar in New England, making Smith an intriguing late-round pick.
