Dynasty Fantasy Football Players to Buy, Sell & Hold: Week 4 (2023)

Week 3 of the 2023 fantasy football season is in the books. At this point in the season, we still don’t know exactly who is for real and who is a one (or two) week wonder.

One example is Puka Nacua, who just came back down to earth and caught five passes for 72 yards against the Bengals. Additionally, we saw Ja’Marr Chase bounce back after a couple of slow weeks. He caught 12 passes for 141 yards, which was more than his first two weeks combined.

Regardless of how your dynasty teams are doing, there is still plenty of time to turn things around. With that, we’ll be looking at some players to buy, sell and hold on your dynasty rosters.

Dynasty Fantasy Football Players to Buy, Sell & Hold: Week 4 (2023)

Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAC)

First up is a quarterback, which is a position I tend to avoid for these weekly articles. In dynasty leagues, typically, you’re not as worried about your quarterback in 1QB leagues. You can absolutely get by and even win a championship with players like Kirk Cousins or Jared Goff. However, Superflex and 2QB leagues are a totally different conversation.

In leagues where you can start two quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen should be the first two players off the board in startup drafts. On that note, I’m currently looking to acquire Trevor Lawrence if possible. Especially in Superflex and 2QB leagues.

Currently in his third season in the NFL, Lawrence has shown us that he has all of the tools of an elite fantasy quarterback. Between talent, opportunity, coaching staff, and offensive weapons, Lawrence checks all of the boxes. However, with the Jaguars starting off 1-2 and giving up the most points in the AFC South, there could possibly be a brief window to buy.

No, he certainly will not be cheap. But again, this slow start could offer a bit of a buying opportunity. Additionally, you might even be able to buy into some of these offensive weapons, such as Calvin Ridley or Christian Kirk. There’s a good reason that this team was a potential Super Bowl sleeper candidate. Good things are coming for Lawrence and this offense.

Verdict – Buy

Najee Harris (RB – PIT)

Speaking of slow starts, Harris has been one of the most disappointing running backs so far this year. While it’s only been three weeks, and there’s plenty of time left, Harris is currently the RB48 in point-per-reception (PPR) leagues. Despite this slow start, Harris still has a safe role on this offense. Regardless of how bad the offensive line is.

In the first two weeks, Harris had just 6 and 10 rush attempts. However, last week against the Raiders, we saw him get 19 carries. While he’s averaging just four yards per carry (YPC) this year, it’s worth reminding that this Steelers team just simply wants to give him the work. Jaylen Warren has been slowly getting more involved, but he’s still not seeing much more than 40% or so of the team’s offensive snaps. Since the beginning of 2022, Warren has received more than 50% of the offensive snaps just once. That was last year, where he saw 51% of the snaps in Week 5.

Needless to say, the Steelers clearly just want to use Harris. Whether it be largely thanks to his blocking, experience, or what, he just keeps getting the early down usage. Despite how Warren looks with his limited touches and despite how slow Harris has started off, few running backs out there get upwards of 20 carries per game. All things considered, it doesn’t look like Harris will be losing significant carries to Warren anytime soon. As long as both of these running backs are on the roster, expect Harris to get plenty of volume and around a 60% split in his favor.

Verdict – Buy Low / Hold

Raheem Mostert (RB – MIA)

Last on this list is one of the two Miami Dolphins running backs who just had a massive performance. Both the veteran, Mostert, and the rookie, De’Von Achane, had massive games against the Broncos in their Week 3 blowout. Moving forward, I’d expect this backfield to be a bit of a split so long as Mostert remains healthy.

Entering his 9th season in the NFL, Mostert is coming off one of just two seasons where he played in all 16 games. Last year, Mostert played in 16 games and finished the season as the RB25 in PPR leagues. The only other time he played in all 16 games was back with the 49ers in 2019. Outside of those two seasons, Mostert has four years where he totaled two or fewer PPR points in the entire season. Additionally, he had two other seasons where he played in 11 games. Needless to say, Mostert simply cannot stay on the field.

Typically, I don’t like to bank on injuries, but it’s hard not to think about it with Mostert. According to Draft Sharks, Mostert has an 85% chance of being injured in 2023 and is considered very high risk. Personally, I’d be trying to sell Mostert high to a dynasty manager who is trying to win now. With rookie Achane looking extremely explosive and considering the injury history for the 31-year-old veteran, I’d try to get out while you can. Use last week’s performance as a talking point and try to sell Mostert for whatever you can. Even a third-round rookie lottery pick.

Verdict – Sell High
