Fantasy Baseball Closer Rankings: Risers & Fallers (Week 1)

Fantasy Baseball Closer Rankings: Risers & Fallers (Week 1)

We are back with the first official Closer Report of the 2025 MLB season. The season is only two days old as of when I am writing this, with many teams having only played one game, so not much has changed since the original chart heading into the season.

As is always the case, many closer situations are fluid throughout the season, so several bullpens will be worth monitoring early in the season, as I will note below.

News & Notes

After struggling last season and in spring training this year, David Bednar struggled in his first two appearances of the season. He allowed a walk-off hit on Thursday with the ghost runner scoring in the 10th inning before holding on for his first save of the season on Friday in a game where he allowed a two-run home run. The leash will likely remain short for Bednar moving forward.

Emmanuel Clase allowed one run on three hits in his first appearance of the season, which resulted in a blown save. He had just three blown saves all of last year. There shouldn’t be any concerns for him moving forward.

Luke Jackson appears to have the edge for saves in the Rangers’ bullpen as he got the opportunity in Friday’s win over the Red Sox. Jacob Webb would seem to be the set-up man based on Friday’s game.

Alexis Diaz was placed on the 15-day injured list (IL) heading into the season. It is a committee for now in the Reds’ bullpen.

Liam Hendriks opened the season on the IL. Aroldis Chapman seems to have the edge for saves, but Justin Slaten also looked sharp in his season debut and could be utilized in some high-leverage situations.
