Closer News & Notes
Robert Suarez continues to hold a MLB-high 15 saves, with Andres Munoz following right behind him with 13 saves.
Munoz allowed his first unearned run of the season and first blown save with the ghost runner on second base in extra innings against the Athletics on Monday, but he has yet to allow an earned run this year.
After seven straight scoreless appearances, Ryan Pressly blew up in extra innings on Tuesday, where he allowed nine runs (eight earned) without recording an out against the Giants. He should still be the Cubs’ closer despite this one appearance, but it is a situation to monitor nonetheless.
Justin Martinez resumed throwing earlier this week. He remains without a clear timetable to return, but does appear to be progressing in the right direction.
