Takeaways
- Abner Uribe picked up three saves plus holds in the last seven days. He allowed zero runs on one hit and one walk, while striking out six in four innings. His 33% strikeout rate is in the 94th percentile, and his xERA is in the 92nd percentile. His walk rate is in the 29th percentile, but at 9%, it’s half of what it was last season. Among pitchers with at least 15o batters faced, he ranks third in fewest barrels allowed with only three.
- Jeff Hoffman also grabbed three saves plus holds in the past week. He pitched three innings, allowing zero runs and striking out two batters. Since June 1st, Hoffman has a 1.38 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, two wins, nine saves and 15 strikeouts. His struggles in May seem to be behind him.
- Andres Munoz grabbed three saves plus holds after only picking up one from May 23rd through June 28th. His three saves came in three perfect innings while striking out four batters against the Royals and Pirates. He has some of the best underlying stats of any pitcher in the league. We just hope he doesn’t go another month with only one save or hold. Matt Brash is someone to monitor. He got a late start to the season as he was recovering from Tommy John surgery, but has been excellent since returning to the bullpen.

Biggest Risers
Trevor Megill (RP – MIL | +4
Trevor Megill has a 2.41 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 21 saves plus holds, two wins and an 11.5 K/9. He struggled to convert saves early in the year, but has been racking them up since the beginning of June. He and Uribe have combined to form one of the better bullpen duos in the league.
Alex Vesia (RP – LAD) | Unranked
Alex Vesia has moved in and out of the top 4o. He has a 2.61 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 12.5 K/9 in 38 innings pitched. He ranks second in the Dodgers’ bullpen in total saves plus holds, and has the best ERA and WHIP. Tanner Scott is the other high-leverage lefty in their bullpen, but has looked shaky of late.
Biggest Fallers
Tanner Scott (RP – LAD) | -3
Tanner Scott is in the top five in total saves plus holds, but has struggled during the Dodgers’ losing streak. He’s given up three runs in two innings in their six-game losing streak, with the latest outing being his sixth blown save. Compared to last year when Scott was at his best, his strikeout rate is the same and his walk rate is 8% better this season. It’s unusual for a pitcher to produce worse outcomes with that improved skillset. However, it may be as simple as he’s throwing the ball in the strike zone too much.
Scott is pitching 4% more in the zone than last year, and giving up 4.5% more contact on those pitches than last year. This has translated to a seven miles per hour increase in average exit velocity, which puts him in the eighth percentile.
Luke Weaver (RP – NYY) | -6
Luke Weaver hasn’t been nearly as good since returning from the injured list. In seven appearances, he’s pitched 5.1 innings, allowing eight hits, two walks and nine runs while striking out eight. Devin Williams has looked much better in the past two months and has secured the closer role.
