Smash Spots

Logan Gilbert (SP – SEA) vs. CWS

Logan Gilbert has racked up seven or more strikeouts in four consecutive starts. During this stretch, the Mariners ace has allowed a combined seven earned runs across 22.2 innings. Up next is a smash spot at home versus the White Sox.

Cristopher Sanchez (SP – PHI) @ TEX

Cristopher Sanchez has lived up to expectations this year, putting up an impressive 2.55 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 130.2 innings. Expect another strong outing against a Rangers lineup that has struggled against lefties this season.

Jack Flaherty (SP – DET) vs. MIN

Jack Flaherty has given up a combined one earned run in his last two outings. Up next is a matchup against a depleted Twins lineup, who just traded away Carlos Correa, Willi Castro and Ty France.

Risky Starts

Framber Valdez (SP – HOU) @ NYY

Framber Valdez has been a model of consistency for the Astros, but it’s hard to feel confident about firing him up at Yankee Stadium, even with Aaron Judge out of the lineup.

Freddy Peralta (SP – MIL) @ ATL

The Braves have had a disappointing season, but there is still enough firepower in that lineup to make you a bit concerned with a Freddy Peralta road start.

Nick Pivetta (SP – SD) @ ARI

Nick Pivetta is likely to have a tough time on the road against a Diamondbacks lineup that doesn’t strike out much, although it bodes well that the team traded away Eugenio Suarez and Josh Naylor.

Two-Start Pitchers

Brandon Pfaadt (SP – ARI) vs. SD, vs. COL

Brandon Pfaadt is prone to blowup starts, but this feels like a good spot to fire him up, especially against the Rockies at home, in what should be a quality outing with several strikeouts.

Yusei Kikuchi (SP – LAA) vs. TB, @ DET

Yusei Kikuchi is another inconsistent pitcher, but he has familiarity with the Rays, so we could see a lot of strikeouts there, as he’s had success against them throughout his career. You could be looking at 12+ punchouts in this two-step.

Quinn Priester (SP – MIL) @ ATL, @ NYM

Quinn Priester has given up two earned runs or fewer in five of his last six outings. While the matchups up next are tough on paper, you have to ride the wave with how good he’s been.
