- Zack Wheeler is pricy, but there is a reason for that. Only Dylan Cease has a higher K/9 than Wheeler. This start is a few days later than originally anticipated due to some shoulder stiffness. All indications are that it shouldn’t impact his pitch count in this start. Texas’ offense has been erratic all season, as they are in the bottom five in OPS.
- Quinn Priester doesn’t have the massive upside of some pitchers because he doesn’t get the strikeouts of the very top tier of pitchers. He has a 19.7% strikeout rate. He sets himself up with a higher floor, though, due to an elite ground ball rate. His 57.8% ground ball rate is in the top five in all of baseball. It makes him a very safe option at his cost.
- If you are looking for cheap upside, consider lefty Joey Wentz. He is pitching for his third team this season, but has pitched better as a starter with Atlanta. In four starts, he has a 3.54 ERA, 2.86 FIP and nearly a strikeout per inning. Today, he takes on a Miami Marlins team that is in the bottom 10 in wRC+ against left-handed pitchers.

- The Philadelphia Phillies are very familiar with Patrick Corbin, who is opposing them today. While this Rangers version of Corbin is better than we’ve seen from him in some time, he still sports an expected ERA, FIP and xFIP above 4.00. I expect we’ll see him give up over three earned runs for the first time since June.
- Two Phillies hitters have had two home runs off of Corbin in their careers. The first is Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber continues to destroy left-handed pitchers, like Corbin, to the tune of a 1.025 OPS against them.
- The other Phillies batter with two home runs off Corbin is J.T. Realmuto. His power has been down all season, as he has only seven home runs. The optimist would say that he does have five doubles and two of those home runs in the last 30 days. He is 14-for-37 against Corbin in his career.
- Bryce Harper also has 14 hits against Corbin in his career. He is 14-for-45 against Corbin in his career. Shockingly, he has never hit a home run off Corbin, but he does have five doubles. He has 16 extra-base hits in the last 28 days, including seven home runs.

- Over the last 30 days, only the Toronto Blue Jays have a higher team OPS than the Athletics (.827). They have a matchup today with left-handed pitcher Cade Povich, who has an ERA over 5.00. In his last start since being recalled, he allowed four earned runs (two home runs) in 5.2 innings.
- Nick Kurtz is going to cost you, but he has the top wRC+ over the past 30 days of all MLB batters (278). It’s not even close, with Kyle Stowers second (215).
- Third on that list of qualified batters in wRC+ over the last 30 days is another Athletic — leadoff hitter Shea Langeliers. He has 17 extra-base hits in the last 30 days, including 10 home runs. His price on FanDuel is particularly appealing.
- The only batter in the Athletics’ projected starting lineup that has faced Povich before is Brent Rooker. That was only one at-bat, but it couldn’t have gone better. Rooker is 1-for-1 against Povich with a home run. He has been better all season against left-handed pitchers with a 1.008 OPS.

Core Studs
- Jordan Westburg has been on fire since the All-Star break. He is batting .301 with seven extra-base hits in just 21 games. Three of those hits have been home runs.
- Make sure that Drake Baldwin is in the lineup. He has started every game except one so far in August. In that time, he has gone 10-for-28 with two home runs and eight RBI.
- When you think of Brice Turang, it’s probably not as a power hitter. However, he’s had seven extra-base hits already in August, including four home runs. He’s hit a home run in both of the last two games.
Value Plays/Punts
- Isaac Collins continues to be undervalued. He delivered yesterday, going 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
- Jurickson Profar is 5-for-14 against Cal Quantrill. Two of those hits have been home runs.
- Cam Smith has fallen back to a reasonable valuation with his recent performance. Since the All-Star break, he is batting just .147 with an abysmal .390 OPS. However, today’s matchup is against a left-handed pitcher in Max Fried. He has been better against left-handed pitchers all season with a .899 OPS.

Sunday’s Top 3 Underdog Player Props
Since coming back from the injured list (IL) at the end of June, Shota Imanaga has not allowed more than 5.5 hits in seven of his eight starts. That includes a start against today’s opponent, the St. Louis Cardinals. In that game, he allowed one hit in five innings. He has faced the Cardinals three times in his career, and has been on the lower side of this mark in two of them.
It was a bit shocking to see Junior Caminero’s total bases number this low. He had a bit of a lull at the end of July, but has picked it up again in August. He’s cleared this mark in his last four games and six of his last seven. It should be noted that he does have a difficult matchup today against Bryan Woo.
Jarren Duran has hits in 12 of his last 13 games. Today, he has a matchup against right-hander Dylan Cease. Duran has been substantially better against right-handed pitching this season with a .295 average against them, compared to a .209 average against left-handed pitchers.
