Dynasty Fantasy Football Risers

Bhayshul Tuten (RB – JAX)

Unfortunately, rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten was forced out of Sunday’s game early in the fourth quarter, but before his exit, Tuten put together a career day. At the time of his injury, he had carried the ball 15 times compared to Travis Etienne‘s 12, which he converted into 74 yards and a touchdown.

Tuten showed sharp and decisive cuts while splintering the defense with a low pad level. It appeared Tuten was prepared to re-enter the game, but was held out with the results already in hand. Etienne ran well, finishing the contest with 73 yards and two scores on 19 carries, and was more involved in the passing game than Tuten. Still, it’s an encouraging performance for Tuten, which has the potential to lead to more work going forward.

Tyrell Shavers (WR – BUF)

After going undrafted in 2023, Tyrell Shavers has seen plenty of reps on the Bills’ practice squad while showing potential in his preseason appearances. It had yet to translate to Sundays until the former San Diego State standout posted 19 PPR fantasy points against the Buccaneers.

Shavers reeled in four of his five targets, totaling 90 yards and a touchdown, leading the team in all categories. He tied Khalil Shakir for the most snaps among the wide receivers, primarily due to the absence of Keon Coleman. Although Coleman should return in Week 12, the Bills are desperate for playmakers on the outside, and Shavers’ big day could lead to more opportunities in the coming weeks.

Tetairoa McMillan (WR – CAR)

The Panthers seem to be improving each and every week, but up until this week, the offensive production had mainly come via the ground game. Carolina’s overtime victory over the Falcons on Sunday, however, was the result of 448 passing yards, with 130 attributed to McMillan to go with his two scores.

McMillan caught eight of his 12 targets en route to 33 fantasy points and a career day. He’s now up to 748 yards and four touchdowns on the season. If we continue to get this version of Bryce Young, McMillan will post big numbers the rest of the way.

Luther Burden III (WR – CHI)

At long last, Luther Burden has taken over as the starting slot receiver for the Bears. Through the first 10 weeks, Olamide Zaccheaus had played 83% of snaps in 3-WR sets. On Sunday, however, Burden notched 100% of the snaps 3-WR sets. The bad news is that the Bears played with three receivers on a season low 21 snaps, and Burden managed just three catches for 27 yards.

This comes after a 51-yard performance last week, a 51-yard game in Week 6 and a 101-yard outing in Week 3, so we have seen flashes from Burden. The increased usage will lead to more production in the coming weeks, making for an ideal opportunity to buy stock in the rookie.

Michael Wilson (WR – ARI)

With Marvin Harrison Jr. out of the lineup on Sunday, Michael Wilson delivered 15 grabs and 185 yards on 18 targets, leading to 33.5 PPR points. Before we get carried away, Jacoby Brissett threw 57 times, which should never happen again, and Harrison will return to the lineup.

Still, Wilson has had numerous opportunities to put his stamp on the offense and excel in the No. 2 WR role, but has consistently fallen short. Perhaps much of that had to do with the quarterback rather than Wilson, but it’s a whole lot of positive momentum for the former third-round pick.

Pat Bryant (WR – DEN)

Although it was Troy Franklin who led the Broncos in receiving yards in Week 11, Pat Bryant has been gaining momentum in recent weeks and delivered five catches for 82 yards on Sunday. It was his best game as a pro with 13.2 fantasy points, and he’s now posted 185 yards across the last four games after being limited to 46 yards through his first seven games.

With four of his five receptions going for a first down on Sunday, Bryant has now moved the sticks on 13 of his 15 receptions this season. If first downs are a predictive metric, Bryant is on an upward trajectory. Hint: First downs are a predictive metric.

Dynasty Fantasy Football Fallers

J.J. McCarthy (QB – MIN)

The Vikings’ young quarterback recently revealed that his alter ego “9” is in charge on gameday. J.J. McCarthy may want to take control of the wheel himself and push “9” to the backseat, as his alter ego is letting him down. He completed 16 of his 32 pass attempts on Sunday, tallying 150 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for six fantasy points.

The Vikings fell to 4-6 and may have regrets of letting MVP candidate Sam Darnold walk in favor of McCarthy, who has yet to show any sort of touch, delivering every pass as if he’s Aroldis Chapman gunning for 105 miles per hour (MPH). It’s been a struggle for McCarthy thus far, and his dynasty value has been dropping ever since he took his first NFL snap.

T.J. Hockenson (TE – MIN)

It should come as no surprise that one of J.J. McCarthy’s targets also hits the fallers’ list, but T.J. Hockenson has been running in mud the entire season. He caught three passes for 39 yards on Sunday, which is an improvement on his eight yards last week and 11 the week prior.

Hockenson has two touchdowns on the season and is up to 280 yards, a far cry from the expectations over the past few seasons when Hockenson looked like one of the elite tight ends in the game.

Calvin Austin III (WR – PIT)

There was never a whole lot of value in the No. 2 WR role in the Steelers’ offense, but Calvin Austin had popped at times over the last two seasons. On Sunday, however, Austin took a backseat to Roman Wilson, who played 53% of snaps in 2-WR sets and 100% in 3-WR sets, compared to 20% and 77% for Austin, respectively.

Before this week, Austin had played 80% of the snaps in 2-WR sets and 93% of the snaps in 3-WR sets. Neither Austin nor Wilson had much of an impact on Sunday’s game, but Wilson is trending in the right direction while Austin is not.

Luke Musgrave (TE – GB)

With Tucker Kraft out for the season, Luke Musgrave has been given a golden opportunity to break loose and show why he was a second-round draft pick. Instead, Musgrave has been quiet and may have been passed over on the depth chart this week.

Musgrave played just three snaps in the second half and totaled fewer snaps than both John FitzPatrick and Josh Whyle. He posted 34 yards in Week 9 and 23 yards in Week 10, but with just one catch for -1 yard this week, Musgrave’s opportunity may have already slipped through his fingers.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt (RB – WSH)

To be fair, the Commanders’ backfield seems to shift every few weeks, but it’s not looking great for early-season darling Jacory Croskey-Merritt. He ran nine times for 28 yards on Sunday, posting just 4.3 fantasy points. It was Chris Rodriguez who drew the start and produced 79 yards on 15 carries, while Jeremy McNichols chipped in four rushes for 13 yards.

It was the second straight start for Rodriguez, but Croskey-Merritt played just one more snap than McNichols, making this a three-man committee to avoid. It doesn’t bode well for Croskey-Merritt’s prospects of leading this backfield.
