Biggest Risers

Riley O’Brien (RP – STL) | +7

Riley O’Brien has been excellent this season. In 7.1 innings, he has a 0.00 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 9.9 K/9 with three saves. He hasn’t allowed a single walk, and his strikeout rate is 30%. O’Brien has been elite thus far.

Jordan Romano (RP – LAA) | +6

Jordan Romano has yet to allow a single run or hit this season. He’s only allowed two walks in six appearances, leading to an impressive 0.40 WHIP.

It’s clearly not sustainable to not allow any hits at all, but if Romano can continue to suppress the walks, he can limit the damage.

Biggest Fallers

Bryan Abreu (RP – HOU) | -13

Bryan Abreu has been horrible in Josh Hader‘s absence. In four appearances, he’s only completed 2.2 innings, giving up four hits, including three homers, five walks and seven earned runs. His six strikeouts are the only bright spot in his line.

Abreu has been one of the most consistent relievers over the past four seasons, so it’s very possible he turns it around. However, for the time being, he’s hard to trust. I wouldn’t drop him in a saves plus holds league, but he can’t be started right now.

Griffin Jax (RP – TBR) | -10

Griffin Jax has had a rough go of it early on. Through five appearances, he’s completed four innings, allowing five earned runs, eight total, seven hits and three walks, while striking out just one batter.

Jax has not picked up a single save or hold, and he already has two losses. He’s a very talented pitcher, who we expect to improve the strikeouts, but for now, he’s unusable.
